I am using the RCA Digital Voice Manager software version 4.06 for a RP5120-A digital recorder. I use this to record sermons for later CD distribution. I had this problem before when I tried to save the file to my PC (WinXP PRO sp.3) and I received a framesize negative value message. I emailed RCA support and they told me to reformat the recorder (Fat 16). I lost the file of course and did what they said. I was then able to save the first file made once again but now receive the "bad file format" message. I can play it only on the recorder but cannot save or make a wave file.
PLEASE...is there ANYONE out here who knows how to save this .VOC file while fixing this problem????
Thank you in advance if you have this solution!!!
Bad News... I spoke to AudioVox/RCA (800-894-0956 < Direct DVR Number) and they told me that once you get this notification of a bad file format, there is NOTHING that can be done.
I tried DOS, too. Nothing worked.
The only thing left to try is connecting the recorder to the computer via a cable from the line out of the DVR to the line in of the audio card, and record from there. I'm going to try this, then return the recorder, if possible. Mind you, I've gone through several of these recorders and all of them have had this problem... eventually.
The customer service person there at AudioVox/RCA was direct, helpful, but clear that I couldn't do anything but reformat the recorder. Though she didn't really seem to care, by her tone, one way or another. They were still reproducing this product even with the flaws that exist (they certainly did not take ownership of the problem... they said it was out of their control and the problem was just like a virus).
I was able to use a hex editor and remove all the bits with a 0 value and save most of the files. It took days and hours of work but i did do. ALSO, I WILL NEVER BUY RCA AGAIN

I just posted the same problem on another thread. I work for an attorney who was recording a conversation that had the potential to exonerate a man. the conversation is crucial and i am still atempting to fix it. we are currently considering a class action suit against rca. if you own a rca recorder that did the same thing (almost all have from what i understand from hours of research trying to fix this) or more importantly if u can tell me how to fix this, please contact me at [email protected] -Thankyou -C
I have the same problem, it said I had a bad format, so I reformatted it and it erased everything even the program from the recorder. It says that I have no time left that it's FULL and my F drive is no longer recognizes it. So now I have a recorder that's Pissing me off. Does anyone have Any idea's. I need this for my class lectures, like today!
