Hi there, My TV opening to a light black screen and shuts down. It does not start. It keeps doing this like there is not enough power. Do you have this problem with anybody else. It happens sometimes when there is power fluctuations. It is connected to UPS and stabilizer. Thanks
The problem with power fluctuations is the Surge Power that exists when Power Is Restored. That passes excessive current to the TV Controller circuit and can blow the circuit board. Sound like that has happened to you.
IN THE FUTURE...always use a UPS (Uninterruptable Power Supply) approximately 1000 Watt unit. It has a battery back up feature and filters the line Voltage. It protects the appliances and saves you grief. Walmart has them, Amazon too.

This looks to be a power supply fault - the inverters for the backlights are built into the power supply (Delta Electronics, model no. ADP-40AF).

Hello, Paul. Your grandson's notebook's problem could be originated from number of things (caused - or not - by the fall). Let's break it down into two problems (which are probably unrelated): the restarting and the dim screen.

About the dim screen
On the aforementioned guide, which i'll be quoting from now on, you'll find particularly relevant information for this case: "Dim desktop image? Can you see a ghost-like image of your desktop that is functional, ie, one that changes if you drag an icon, launch a program or disappears if you shut down. Standard LCD screens produce very little visible light on their own, they require the Cold Cathode Fluorescent Light (CCFL) to light the screen from behind. The fluorescent tube is normally located at the top of the screen, and a bright reflective surface distributes the light across the back of the LCD, so it can shine through the liquid crystals of the liquid crystal display, which only transmit red, green or blue (RGB)."
When you say it brightens, it probably does so in sort of a tinted way.
"Red, orange tint, uneven? Is the entire screen tinted red or orange (probably growing worse over time) or is the background brightness of the screen uneven, particularly near the edges? The tin is caused by a failing backlight not putting out the full spectrum of white light, so the CCFL tube needs to be replaced."
This gives us some information about the backlight that is used in LCD screens, but there's also another component in play, which is the inverter. A damaged inverter is *the* greatest cause for failing notebook screens. Your grandson's notebook's backlight could be fine, but a damaged inverter may not be sending it enough current for it to work. I could only tell you exactly which one is at fault here by running some tests on it, but this information points you to the very likely source of the problem.
About the restarting
This problem unfortunately has a wider range of possible sources, ranging from OS-related problems (like viruses and a corrupt installation), faulty/misconfigured hardware (or drivers), overheating (though the computer usually shuts itself down when it overheats, instead of restarting. It depends on your available BIOS settings) and many others.

You indicate that the lamp for Power On comes on? (Light bulb icon)
What about the harddrive activity lamp? (Media Activity icon. Looks like a book. Third icon going right, from Light bulb icon)
Is this lamp lit up? (May flash dim to bright) This indicates the harddrive is working.

Do you have a floppy disk in the floppy disk drive? Remove it.
No floppy disk? Media Activity icon lamp is working?
Try increasing the Brightness. Hold the Fn key down, (Function key), and press the Right Arrow key.
No?
See if the LCD screen display has accidentally been toggled over to an external display. Hold the Fn key down, tap the F5 key once.
No?
Then it's time to get technical.
The following is not designed to confuse you, nor make it seem like, 'I'm all that, and a bag of chips'
It's a Flow Chart I have used in the past, plus techniques for finding laptop display problems.

Do you have an external VGA monitor you can connect for a test? Your laptop has a VGA connector on the back.
[Your VGA connector is in the center, on the back of your laptop]
(VGA monitor looks like a TV. It is a Cathode Ray Tube. CRT)
This is what a VGA connector looks like,

Connect the VGA monitor first, THEN, power on your Acer laptop.
Now turn the power on the VGA monitor to On.
You have to toggle your graphics over from your LCD screen of the laptop, to this VGA monitor.
To do this you hold the Fn key down, then tap the F5 key once. (A VGA monitor takes a second, or so to 'Come to life'. Wait a few seconds, see if the VGA monitor comes on. If not, hold the Fn key down again, and tap the F5 key)
Now, do you have graphics on the VGA monitor?
Yes?
Do you have a dim screen?
Try using the Brightness control of the VGA monitor to increase.
Doesn't work?
Then you have a bad Backlight, or a bad Inverter.
(An Inverter supplies the correct power to the LCD screen, and the Backlight.
The Backlight is comparable to a Fluorescent tube, used for normal residential, and commercial lighting. It is a Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp. CCFL. The LCD screen cannot be seen without this Backlight bulb)
Requires replacement of these two components.
A Backlight bulb is cheaper to replace than an Inverter. A Backlight bulb is also MUCH harder to replace than an Inverter.
The Backlight bulb is located within the LCD screen itself, which requires dismantling the LCD screen to replace it.
The Inverter is a component that is accessed much easier.
Upon removing the LCD screen from the laptop, then removing the bezel that goes around the LCD screen, the Inverter is located at the bottom of the LCD screen.
I state that both components should be replaced, because I have found that when one goes out, the other is usually not far behind it.
Do not have a dim screen?
Then the connectors for the wires, that supply the video signal, and power to your LCD screen, may be loose.
OR,
1.It could be those wires are broken
2.It could be a bad LCD screen
3.Could be a bad connector on the motherboard, for the wire's that deliver signal, and power to the LCD screen's connector,
or the matching connector on the LCD screen, for those wires.
Do not have graphics, (images), on the external monitor?
Then you have a bad graphics chip on the laptop's motherboard.
Requires replacement of the motherboard.
The above is stated, so that you will know what may be happening with your Acer Travelmate laptop.
