My laptop works at a certail angle ? :(

Hi all,

I have hp laptop. I bought it 4 years back and it was working fine till now. But for last couple of days i am finding a problem.

My laptops doesnt boot if i place it in my lap or at some flat surface. I need to put something beneath it to make it boot.

Every time i need to use diff combinations to make it work. What coule be the reason ? Is this a problem related to my Hard disk ?

Also when i properly tighten the screws beneath it, it works fine for some time. Again the same problem starts.

This is a common problem with these machines.
There are components that have come loose on the main board from the machine flexing on the one side.

You can replace the main board thur HP if its under wty.

If you read thu the HP msgs, there are some other things you might want to try if the machine it out of wty.

I don't believe that this is a problem related to your hard disk. It sounds to me like you've got either a short or a loose connection somewhere inside your notebook.

You (or a qualified technician) need to open up the notebook and check all of the connections and look for worn or frayed wires and cables.

The link below details how to safely open the notebook if you choose to do so on your own:
http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c00502970/c00502970.pdf

Hope this helps. Please take a moment to rate this solution. Thanks.

If you're not 100% sure about opening it up yourself, I would take it somewhere. I would only take it to HP if it is still under warranty. If not, find a reputable computer repair service in your area, you'll save a lot of money and most likely a lot of time as well.

You most probably have a loose connection on one of the ribbon connectors inside, or one of the chips is not seated correctly

Yes, you have come up with the right answer.

Most laptop batteries do well to last 1 year before they wear out. You have done very well to stretch out 3 years on this battery. Good work!

If you want some help finding a replacement battery, please reply with the full model number of the laptop and I'll track one down for you.

Turning on &sterio problems

Hi, my problem was that I had trouble turning my laptop on. It had been getting worse over the last couple of years. It was suggested that the power button should be replaced. While searching the HP site on how to do this, I ran across a solution that said to take out the battery, unhook anything else that might be connected to the laptop, and then press the power button for around 10 seconds to drain all remaining power out. Then put battery back in and try to turn on. It worked! My laptop now turns on and off just fine! Hope this can help someone else....Linda P
