I have an Indesit IDL 735 model dishwasher. It wont drain the last bit of water and the first lgreen light is on when I try to start a cycle and it wont run. I think it may be some sort of block?

It is so common that the drain blocks in many ways and is the most problematic fault in a dish washing machine due to waste food particles. In all occasions it is important that your observation is most important and so is vital to the identification /rectification and solution. If you have noticed that water has leaked then as the drain hose pump/valve and fittings are located on the underside of the machine it is important that you look for possible leaks here. In some cases the drain hose would be clogged at the drain end to outlet of the house and so there will be back flushing resulting in overflow to the outside. Also the drain pump/valve can be clogged or the drain hose clamps can be loose on the grip which can all cause the leak to occurs. Removing and Cleaning the drain pump/valve, tightening of the hose is also very important.

Dishwasher will not drain. We cannot get the screen out to check for clogs. There is a grey plastic box that prevents the screen from coming out.

Hi

Dishwasher not draining issue usually occurs due to kinked drain pipe, clogged drain filter or drain pump. Check the drain hose for any visible clogging, remove if present. If no visible lint is present then remove then turn off the dishwasher and remove the drain hose and check for any visible clogging. If still not visible then the drain filter or drain pump is clogged and you'll need to clean the drain filter and drain pump.
Please note that dishwashers don't drain out the complete water such that heating element doesn't overheat. Hope this helps... Please post back for any further assistance.

We have a kitchenaid dishwasher KUDK03FTSS. some type of clog. draining into the sink from the overflow. what should we look for and where?

If this is an old installation and the unit has been working then the problem is with your house-sink drain.
Dishwashers either connect to your disposal unit or to the drain directly. Usually if you have a clog with a disposal unit in the line then it backs up into the sink through the main drain. You say from the overflow.
Look under the sink and find the point where your dishwasher connects to the main drain. Open the connection and check for a clog just below the connection point. This is the most likely cause of your problem.
Good luck.

The GE Profile Dishwasher does not drain completely. The bottom drain shows no obvious clog and the screens are clear. The overflow drain in the back of the washers the only reason the dishwasher does not...

Uncouple the drain hose connection under the sink and use a wet/dry vacuum to **** out the drain hose and the stub on the sink drain plumbing to clear any possible clogs. There may be a blocked check valve near the pump that might have to be cleaned or replaced. Check the hose itself for any kinks or collapsed section. There might be a damaged drain impeller on the pump. Hope this helps!

Overflow draining to the sink

it's supposed to drain out the same drain pipe your sink uses. If it is overflowing into your sink, then your drain pipe is clogged. Your sink probably overflows when your disposal runs too, right? Unclog your pipe and you're good to go.

Maytag dishwasher doesn't completely drain!

First check to see if anything has gotten into the sump drain inside the bottom of the dishwasher tub. Sometimes a piece of plastic wrap, or other small item can become lodged there, causing the DW to drain slowly.

If nothing there, check the air-gap device at the sink, as these can become clogged over time and that would also prevent proper draining. The air-gap is the round (usually silver chrome colored) cap mounted on the corner of the sink). Pull off the cap, it comes straight up with a little twist and polling motion. Clean out the screen filter and also look down the hose to see if there are any obstructions in the drain hose.

If that is OK, check the drain hose from the air-gap down to the connection at the sink drain, or if you have a disposal, where it is connected to the disposal. Sometimes small bits of stuff can get stuck in the hose at these various points and any build up over time, will make proper draining difficult.

You can also flush the drain lines with hot water to make sure the lines are clear. If none of this works, you could have something in the DW sump pump and that will require removing the DW from under the counter and checking the pump area for obstructions. Sometimes you can easily remove the flexible pump body and get at the drain valves. Just be sure to disconnect the power and turn off the water supply before removing the DW to attempt any repairs.

Hope you find this Very Helpful and best regards!

Dishwasher does not drain, instead drains through overflow valve in sink. No apparent clog seen.

Usually the sink connection is not an overflow, it is the main drain from the dishwasher. It is more likely your s-bend is blocked under the sink- try putting a bucket under it and unscrewing the u-shaped piece and cleaning out (remember don't wash it in that sink while the pipe is off)

Kenmore Ultra Wash III Dishwasher will not drain properly

From the sound of things, your dishwasher drains faster than your sink drain ( via the garbage disposal) can drain it off.. You may have a problem with the way your sink drain/trap is vented and there is too much back pressure to drain down quickly.. When you run water from your sink, does it take a long time to drain down or if you fill your sink up and drain it, does it drain slowly ? That may be your problem.. Hope that helps.
