you open the side panel and you will see the slots for the ram. The slot is usually black about 6" long, there may be 2 or 4 slots.

Yes....
Make sure that the power is off, and uplug the unit from the back. Then install the memory and plug it back in then power it back up. The computer will see the new memory and so will Vista.

1 GB increase

hi

not every motherboard or on board video is compatible with windows 8

what windows was it running previously

windows 8 was designed for 64 bit platforms which requires 4 gig of ram but you have to also take into account the other hardware components and there maximum configuration

i have run win 8 on 2 gig of ram but it struggles with you tube downloads

i upgraded the ram to 4 gig and run win xp win 7 and win 8.1 on the hard drive

cheers

Cannot download service pack 2 for windows vista 32 bit

Your problem has to do with Windows Update causing the error.

Try clicking on the link below and run the Fixit from Microsoft.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058

Then run the Service Pack 2 download and install.

I installed 4 Gig of RAM memory but only 3.25 shows up.\r\nis there a test I can run to see if the memory cards are working correctly? Thanks. Paul

It sounds like you are running a 32 bit operating system XP, Vista, or Windows 7 (32).
The 32 bit Operating Systems are only able to see and use about 3Gb of RAM. To use a greater amount you will need a 64 bit OS (either Windows XP/64 or Windows 7/64) or one of the open source 64 bit operating systems.

Can I upgrade my Emachines T6534 running Windows XP Professional SP3 (32 bit) to Windows 7 Professional 64-bit?

No. You have a 32 bit CPU. It will not run 64 bit software. You need a 64 bit CPU first.
