SOURCE: I have a Roland Versacamm

this sounds like a scan motor error. clean encoding strip and test. If still wavy remove scan sensor the one that reads the encoder strip, clean with alcohol, replace and test. if still bad replace encoder strip and the eye that reads it.

I have a roland sp-540v, trying to print on banner material with black backing. Keeps on getting message to setup sheet while everything is loaded correct. The sensor is probably not picking up black.

Could you try
(1) Temporarily stick a white strip over the sensor where it detects the media or
(2) On the length of the media or
(3) Even staple same sized white media below the black one which you can un-staple after printing.
kindly ignore if these are (s) tupid answers

My roland vp-540 will start printing and then when busy printing it will just stop, if you go into your versawork on computer it just says not connected? What could be the problem?

Just one Question?
Do you have your LAN Cable tied with your AC power Cable?
I have th same problem on two VP540 after seven years of trouble free working. A few months ago I was reorganizing my shop and I tied up both cables to avoid tangle cables with machine wheels every time I move It.
I think that the noise produced by AC Voltage Affect the VP540 ethernet port.
