When on a call, the person at the other end hears an echo of his own voice. The Nokia site suggests reducing the volume to 5, but then I strain to hear anything.

hmm..that is a little odd..it may be coming from your voice hitting the wireless headset and also the mike on the phone at basically, but not precisely the same time..try it with the phone far enough away so that the mike on the unit can not pick up your voice..
Hi free unlock code are un trustable many times .I recommend you to visit Superunlockcodes.com to unlock your Nokia lumia 900 mobile from network lock .Here they ask you the network name to which your mobile is locked and the IMEI number of your mobile .Then at last they deliver you code to unlock your mobile.
This is due to the old Bluetooth software in the car kit, the kit is now very old and will not work well with non Nokia phones, try keeping the volume down to reduce the echo.
That's because they are using their speakers to lesson to you. If you both use headphones then you won't get the echo. Also you can have them try to lower the volume at their end. Hope this helps.
