Can not transfer videos from Canon VIXIA HF R30 to Mac

As to the wi-fi and ftp solutions, I have no clue, nor do their customer service people. The keep saying, "Well, I have no no experience with a Mac, but on Windows. . . " Worthless! But maybe you'll have better luck. 1-800-828-4040.
As to the USB problem, that's not too bad. The Power Charger MUST be plugged in to transfer any files anywhere! The movies and photos are importable to iMovie11. Select the playback button on the left side of the camcorder (bottom button on right). Select the Index selection button in the upper left corner (the icon with rotation arrows). Select either the internal memory or the SD icon, if you've inserted your own chip. Then select AVCHD movies. Attach the USB cable to the camcorder and your Mac. When the next window says "Select the memory for connection," select "All (for PC only)". Thumbnails will quickly be created for all movies. A "Canon" disk icon will then appear on your Mac's desktop. Launch iMovie11. IMovie will then detect the camcorder. (If it doesn't work the first time, then quit iMovie and open it a second time.) There will be three options in the pop-up menu on the bottom left of the camera import window (camera import auto-launched when a connection is detected): one for mp4 movies and one for AVCHD movies (and one for your iSight, built-in camera for recording). Importing is then just a question of clicking which movie clips you want to import from which source and clicking the "Import checked..." button.
MP4 movies (only) can also be downloaded directly to your hard drive by opening the Canon disk icon>DCIM folder>###CANON folder>selecting anything ending in ".mp4". The jpg thumbnails are not needed. Retitle the movies as you so choose in the finder after putting them somewhere on your hard drive.
I've opened the info window on an(y) mp4 movie, selected "Open With...">QuickTime Player, then checked "Change all" so that all mp4 movies open with QuickTime rather than iTunes, the default. Those movies can also be imported later to iMovie using FIle>Import>Movies and finding the files on your hard drive.
If anyone comes up with what the heck you need to do to use Mac's built-in ftp server and what to type into the camcorder's destination folder windows for wi-fi downloading, PLEEEEEEEEEEASE let us all know!!!!! (Not that the USB connection isn't sufficient.)

yes, it does.
It only works with iLife 08 or 09, not older version.
It's easier to connect with a card reader to your Mac, Open iMovie to import. If via Camcorder, make sure Camcorder is set to display->Print/PC.

Mac G4 won't recognize Canon FS10 video output

This is only a suggestion: If you want to use the software that comes with the camera, PIXELA ImageMixer 3 SE, this needs to be installed first. Also make sure the camcorder is set on Play mode and that you have chosen which memory you want to transfer data from.
Alternatively, you can transfer the movies through iMovie, which is usually the easiest way. If you are not familiar with transfering and editing movie clips, I would recommend this.
Apart from this, as always, I referr to the user manual. Good luck!

Best HD Camcorder for Mac, iMovie, iMovie? 08, iMovie? 09

Recording daily life and interesting things with a HD camcorder becomes a trend for our people. They like to share these digital camcorder videos on Mac or PC with family and friends. However, selecting a good digital camcorder for Mac is not easy for green hand. Maybe more tips need paying attention, for example, the types of your camcorder and Mac, the version of iMovie on Mac, Mac and PC compability with digital camcorder and so on.

iMovie has been a Mac OS X only application bundled in the iLife suite of Macintosh applications since iMovie3. From 2007 to 2010, Apple developed iMovie to iMovie' 08, iMovie' 09, and iMovie for iPhone and iPod Touch. Luckily, iMovie' 08, iMovie' 09 are designed to work with a wide range of digital video devices and formats, including tape-based(use a FireWire cable, also known as IEEE 1394 or i.Link) and the latest tapeless camcorders that record to flash memory, a hard disk drive(HDD), or DVD media.

A list of Digital Camcorders Compatible with iMovie' 08, iMovie' 09 on Mac OS X
