Range led flash code F7

My 20 year old electric Jenn Air range recently flashed the F7 error code and beeped repeatedly. I shut off the circuit breaker until it cooled. The next day I turned it on and everything seemed fine. We baked a pizza and the
erro repeated when the oven was shut off.
I opened the front panel and noticed the wire ribbon connecting the front panel to the display was slightly askew. How that happened is beyond me. I pulled out the ribbon hold down clips, pushed the ribbon in all the way, and
replaced the hold down clips. The range is now working properly after replacing nothing.
The cheapest fix possible.

The F7 error code means that a function key on the touchpad is shorted or stuck, the F7 can be cleared by pushing the clear/off button,if the error code returns the touchpad would need to be replaced.

Well first of all you determine if problem is with the Key Panel or Control by:
1. Pushing CLEAR/OFF pad.
2. Disconnecting Ribbon Cable from control and waiting at least 32 seconds to see if Code recurs
If code recurs, problem is in the control. Replace control.
If code does not recur, problem is with the Key Panel.
 
This error code F7 means Function pad button stuck or Bad clock: Unstick button or Replace Electronic Range Control (ERC)......

HI. This f-7 is indicating that the touch pad is malfunctioning. Follow the procedure below to address further.

Determine if the problem is with the Key Panel or Control by:

NOTE( If your unit is equipped with an integrated touch pad, and control board, you will need to replace the entire control board in this case)

On a GE range oven F7 indicates either a function pad button is stuck or the clock on the oven is malfunctioning

On the 99 Range oven F7 indicates a shorted Clear/Off Key due to membrane switch or a shorted control or connector

On the GE XL44 Self Clean Oven F7 is Stuck keypad or control relay malfunction

your problem is with the EOC (Electronic oven control) or touch pad if it is seperate from the control...if the touch pad is seperate...unplug range - access the control panel - remove the wiring/tape wire from touchpad to EOC...plug range back in...leave over night...if f7 code comes back it's the EOC...if the error code clears it's the touchpad...replace the part with the problem...if touchpad built into EOC replace the EOC. Push all buttons several times each. Often this will clear a stuck pad.
