The problem is not with the mail filter board as that only supplies standby voltages to the chassis. If the led is blinking 3 times the most likely scenario is the flyback , Thats why the clicking from flyback coincides with the led's blink. If you look on the deflection board ( where the flyback Is) at the top of that board there is a u shaped heat sink that has CP150 in side the "U" chances are the top of that capacitor will be budged and possibly CP114 as well see photo below.no power rca d52w19 - d7cce32.jpg

Alot of people are not truly famillar with RCA TVs and I guess its natural to assume that the power supply is at fault. But the RCA will only do a 3 blink led error for a couple of reasons. The RCA ITC222 chassis can develope a no start situation from simply unplugging the power cord while its playing. Its too long to explain how to remove the board and flyback here , but if you send me a email to [email protected] i will send you the step by step instructions on how to remove the board and remove the wires from the flyback.which has pictures showing how to do it correctly. The other tech was only trying to help But the ITC222 chassis is something that doesnt have good service info available as its made by Thomson for RCA and GE But I have worked on that chassis well over 300 times so I am very famillar with the symptoms and causes.

I am trying to. But its impossible to post the detailed info with pictures here as the photos can only be less than 100kb in size and the info you need just to get the deflection board out correctly without doiing more harm is a large file with numerous photos. Its hard to diagnose a TV problem if not being done in person, but the 3 error code in your model is only caused by a couple of items and even slightly moving the TV when its on can cause the 3 blink error as that is the number one symptom of that chassis and it can be brought on while just watching the set. as its a component that has a high failure rate. You can take 1000 of the RCA ITC222 chassis and 95% of them will have that same no start condition with the led blinking 3 times and they will all need the same repair to restore operation.

  • Sonny Berry

By reading some of the comments I can see why you are confused, Your set doesnt have a ballast or coolong fan or a DM. As I stated unless you are famillar with this chassis you will not even begin to understand whats going on. You should be able just to feel the top of CP150 without removing the board. The wires will come out of the flyback, but you have to do it correctly as there is a plastic lock ring around the large red wire under the rubber boot that has to be released and slid up the wire before you can remove it. The black wire for the focus needs to be pried out carefully. But there are ceratin percautions that you need to observe such as grounding the end of the red wire as soon as its removed to a heat sink just to insure the High voltage if present is discharged.

Hey Pete, contact RCA, see what part they suggest for you to replace so you don't have to start doing any more damage to it. You can probably get a good deal if you go through RCA too, sorry your having so much trouble! Hope i've helped.

You will have to open the back and the fron t screws of the tv and the back will come out loose and you will get the access of the power board.on that main circuit board check out for ic number IC374JC that ic has to be replaced.also the capacitors which are slightly bulged at its top and which looks leaked from its top has to be replaced as they are faulty.replacing the component given will solve the problem.

Yes you need to check the capacitors on the board. Chance of it being bulged is more .

I'm slightly confused what part was pulled out. i would suggest first that you check the solder joints where the power plug goes into the board and any connector that might have been pulled. then check that when the board was pulled by the cord... that no other connectors inside the tv were disconnected or slightly loosened.

I recommend checking the bulb to see if its damaged. most of the time, this is the issue. make sure the cooling fan assembly if free of dust as well.

its not just the capacitors. the whole board went up. this was due to overheating. i suggest replacing the entire power supply board. replacing each individual parts will run up a huge repair bill when, replacing the entire board will be much cheaper.

  • Anonymous Mar 14, 2009

this last ditch effort of power transfer is coming from what can be stored in the lone capacitor that is barely working. this was caused by insufficient air flow. overheating. this is a CRT rear projection screen. there are other components that will transfer power before the protect mode will shut down the set.

  • Anonymous Mar 14, 2009

im sure the cooling system failed long before the power board failed.

  • Anonymous Mar 14, 2009
  • Anonymous Mar 14, 2009

yes, replacing the entire board will fix your issue. Follow me on this, the power board is crippled and can only with stand enough current to send the protect command to the main board. once this is done, the main board will switch the set to protect mode to prevent the fire that will occur if the power board is permitted to remain operational. this board has damaged circuitry and will need to be removed and replaced.

Unless u have very good electronics repair experience u should let a shop do this part replacement, u can ruin the circuit board from heat or improper/rough handling, a whole new board is around $600

Did you check the capacitors on power board?

  • Ginko
    Ginko Mar 14, 2009

Hi, the TV is in protection mode. This means that an internal fault had been detected, and the protection circuit on your digital control board started, activating the protection switch , that is the clicking noise that you hear (that is not the flyback).

Additionally , this TV is rear projection, and not a traditional CRT , therefore things are a bit different.

If you are a technician you need to start by leaving the TV unplugged for five hours or so. This may reset the protection circuit by draining power completely, in case the TV has no real fault.

If that does not help, there is need to test the PSU unit, the ballast board and the dmd board inside the TV, starting from the capacitors on power board. Also test the convergence ICs (STK) located on C board inside the TV.

If you want to DIY you will also need to get the service manual.

If you are noty a technician, just unplug the TV from main overnight and check that none of the touch buttons is stuck.Alos unplug any unit connected to TV.

If that does not help a repair will start at $150, and it is generally between $150 and $350, depending on parts needed, only in ecceptional occasions , like with a faulty light engine the repair can reach quotes much higher than this.

Hello.

If your wife move the tv, and the cable wire pulled out of the screw in connector that screws it to the back of the tv, that's not a problem at all. I say this because you say she tried to plug the bare wires back in- so you're left with your cable, and no end on it to screw to the tv, because that's still attached to the tv. THIS IS NOT A BIG DEAL!! I really doubt this event damaged anything in the tv. You can buy a crimp kit and put a new end on the cable (good ones aren't cheap, around $60 for the tool), or get the cable company to put one on.

The first thing you should be checking is the projection lamp. I'd bet money that it's toast. These lamps run VERY hot, and do not take well to being moved around while running. That's what the flashing is telling you.

I hope this sheds some light on your situation. Please comment, and please rate if this helps :)

Look for a small red push button along the back of the chassis. Push it in. It's the main reset button.

The attachment point for the coax cable was pulled off-broken off

You'll need to take it to a repair shop. There are high voltage capacitors inside a television which will hold a charge even after all power is removed. I would highly advise against making this repair yourself.

Yes there is a possibility that something shorted... remove the cable wire and unplug for 10 to 30 min and try plugging back in and restarting the set. otherwise the tuner probaly would need replaced. something any tv tech can do. AT the shop we replace these conectors al the time. just depends how bad the tuner is damaged.

Coax that looks like RCA?

There is a distinct difference between coax and phono (rca) cabling. Coax, sometimes called RF, is a cable that carries audio and video at the same time, what we call a "modulated" signal. RF connections look as if they are threaded on the chassis of your TV or VCR etc. A lone "Phono" cable moves either audio or video, but not both at the same time, unlike coax.
If you are attempting to patch RF, your cable must be coax at both ends.  Hope that helps.

you can try to get just the coax replacement , otherwise you will have to get the whole tuner, and the number for the tuner is right on the tuner , but just soldering in a new coax connector is cheaper

You could get away with replacing it if you get a 'freeview box' and connect it to the scart socket on the back of the tv and then connect your ariel into the freeview box instead.
