AKAI LCT3285TA seems to be stuck in "Standby"

We have an AKAI LCT3285TA that was purchased at Office Depot about 7 months ago. One day, it just refused to turn on. The little red LED on the front bezel is lit, indicating "Standby" mode, and when the "ON" button is pushed, it blinks once and stays red and the screen doesn't come on at all, totally black. Normally, the red LED would turn green, then the blue AKAI boot screen would appear, then the video picture would come on (cable box, DVD, etc.) On another website I read about a similar situation where the TV was stuck in "Child Lock" mode, and was unlocked using the remote. The instruction booklet says nothing about any such mode for our TV. Calls to AKAI "tech support" have been useless, the guy was basically reading the same booklet that came with the TV to me. I tried to schedule a service visit since the unit is still under warranty, but almost a week later we haven't heard from the shop. So we are still stuck with a non-working large LCD... Is it really stuck in Standby, or has something like the internal power supply failed?

    Here's an update...

A guy from a local shop finally came out to check the TV, and decided it was the "main board" that was causing the problem. So, about a week later, he comes back with the new board, and exchanges it with the original one. The TV still does the exact same thing, and still doesn't work. So now, he says it must be the power supply (which is what we suspected in the first place!) and we must wait for that part now.
Since there is only about 3 major components in there, and no real way of testing the original ones (according to him) you would think he could just bring the power supply & the mainboard, and save us all some time, but no...
So now we are waiting for the power supply.
It has been about a month since the TV stoppped working, but at least we are closer to a solution now (hopefully)

Lesson learned: When purchasing a large LCD TV, I would buy the extra warranty coverage from the store if it allows me to bring the unit in and exchange it for another one on the spot... Trying to get it repaired under manufacturer's warranty has been just ridiculous.

I have the same problem. I unplugged set, waited for standby light to go OUT then pluged in again. Had to do this each time I turned on set (did it for several weeks). Finally took set to repair yesterday, and couldn't get set to come on at all. He thinks it is the power supply

Greetings,

We own a small TV repair shop in Ohio and have ran into similar problems with this TV.

To fix this problem we replaced 3 caps near and in the powersuppy of the TV.

This TV is very sensitive to electrical problems ( more then most if that's possible) so check the caps near the PSU.

Over all this TV is a fairly decent product.

I posted the question above, but found an out of the box solution for it.. it worked for me, may work for you.. My AKAI TV was under warranty and had the "it won't turn on problem" often cited here and could not raise customer service on the phone or website. I went to the AKAI worldwide website and wrote an impassioned plea asking if anyone had contact with AKAI that could relay my plea. I literally wrote to every national AKAI organization in the world.. I received a couple of replies from these company entities.. To my suprise I received an email from AKAI's US support people.. it seems that one of my emails was forwarded to them.. It took me 6 weeks from the onset of the problem to get it resolved, but AKAI's service organization in the US came thru and my set has been fixed and returned to me at no cost. If you need service or parts, this is a thing to try.. no guarantees, but persistence pays off.. Good Luck

I have an 18 month old Akai LCT3201TD that has done practically the same thing. When you turn on the power switch on the back of the unit the screen turns a dark blue and you hear a humm. when you select with the remote or on the side of the unit to take it out of standby it does nothing. It being out of warranty I took it to the repair shop and was told it was more than likely the Motherboard and the cost of a new one would be $400.00 "if they could find one". Needless to say I now have a $1000.00 dust collector sitting in the corner of my spare room. Never again "AKAI". nojunk

Mr_ Kitten; I am anxiously awaiting for the next chapter in this saga. Is it going to be the Power Supply or the next component? I have since purchased a 32" Vizeo to replace the Akai and I did buy the extra warranty from the store. Just for your info: I was using the VGA hook-up on the Akai and on the computer when the screen went to dark blue.Good Luck; nojunk

Remote control for the LCT3285TA

Good News! I found a universal one that works with my LCT3285TA. It's the GE Universal Remote Control, 5 Device w/learning. SKU: 24950

It isn't very expensive, and can be found at many Target stores.
You can even check its availability in your local Target on their website. I haven't deciphered the date code on the packages, but look for ones with an 8 or at least a 7 in the 4 digit code on the back.

One of the AKAI codes in the TV section of the code list works fine with this model TV. I forget which code it is at the moment or I'd list it here.

Good Luck

Screen powers up then goes blank after 2 seconds

Hi, was there a resolution to this? I am experiencing the same problem with LCT3285TA purchased at Radio Shack in Media, PA. Radio Shack has refused to service the unit and has put me over to Akai for the manufacturer's warranty. I'd like to know what to expect and if this problem with the Logo coming up and the unit shutting off/restarting can be easily fixed, thanks.
