I went to HGST.com to download their testing software and I am unable to get it. I ran Ccleaner to wipe MFT free space clean. Ccleaner gave me this NOTE: the volume does not contain a recognized file system... Please make sure that all required file system drivers are loaded and that the volume is not corrupted...end....
Ya know... sometimes a VIRUS or MALWARE can snag your system and create it's own encrypted/hidden FOLDER and even commandeer your hidden BACKUP drive!
Simple code instructions can REFORMAT that hidden drive with a new format type then access that drive at will...
On occasions hackers will USE YOUR SYSTEM as a SOURCE to broadcast or spread that virus to new unsuspecting people on your email lists AND others across the Internet too... in fact all kinds of new and nasty methods are launched against good people every day.
I wish you would have included your Operating System and system model number... then I may have some free software sources that can sniff the problem out.
Out comes the broad brush.
A (Win 7) example: Go to your Run Window and start to type in partition and a LINK should pop. Open it to see a PROFILE of your hard drive(s) and HOW they are formatted (and partitioned)! Don't change anything... just get a 'snapshot' and idea of your 'hard drive setup' now. You may discover where and why CCleaner can't access certain data?
For a WINDOWS system download MALWAREBYTES and be SURE it's set to scan ALL drives... it's full and free 30 day trial.
Next find and load a TINY program called: "What's Running". This nifty program will tell you EVERYTHING that's loaded and running on your system! Great stuff and it too is free... Copy the results to a text file or email and send it to a computer tech you know.
Or look at the window and see items you think may be malware or bad... you can always Google the file names to see what those programs and who wrote the files... Example: Your sound card may have drivers running?
What's Running does not allow you to change anything... it's only mission is to tell you what's loaded and running... Be sure to try the other TABS too see how any WHY your system is so slow or what is demanding your memory and CPU attention!
These are all things I would try and strongly recommend that you use these tools too.

Thank you for downloading Malwarebytes Anti Malware
I have used CCLEANER for many years and never had a problem. That does not mean someone else might not. But being as you have to use CCLEANER from within Windows, it is highly unlikely you do not have a recognized file system. It kind of sounds like possibly you have CCLEANER set to open on a different drive than the one Windows is on.
SOURCE: Can't access drive.
It sounds like the volume is corrupted or the drive is bad. If you don't need the data on it then try and format it and repartition it. If the problem persists the drive is bad.
Thanks,
Lee
