When the cycle doesn't advance, it's probably the timer or a cold-water supply problem:

  • It's the timer, if your washing machine fills with water and begins agitating, but the timer never advances--or if the washer is in a spin cycle and the timer won't advance. Then you need to replace the timer.

  • It may be a cold-water supply problem, if the washing machine fills with water, agitates, drains, and spins, but then doesn't fill with rinse water. See There's no cold water.

sounds like you have a bad lid switch part 3949247 and it's around 50 dollars.open the lid, look at the right side, you'll see a hole, stick a screw driver into the hole and push down easy with the machine set on spin,if it doesn't spin and when you push up and down on the switch with the screw driver the lid switch is bad.watch video

Kenmore 300 model 110.28322700 won't run. motor makes humming sound

Pre Thanks for help.

I have read all above and these are my symptoms.
1. Washer fills, may or may not agitate, will not advance to the rinse cycle, and will NOT drain - lid switch.

however i tested my lid switch with a multimeter and the lid switch seems to be fine.

What else could be my issue?

Our washer is filling with water but will not run the cycle after it fills. We were able open and close the lid and it would start but now it only fills with water...Please help!!!

the lid switch is buggered the lid can be open while its filling but when it goes to start washing the lid needs to be shut so the lid switch isnt working so the machine thinks the lids open.

Only the rinse and spin cyl wont work on my whirlpool

first check the lid switch, open and close down the lid and listen for a clicking sound,if you don't hear it clicking you have a bad lid switchtry opening the lid with it on spin and stick a screw driver or anything that will fit in the hole where the lid closes down into the hole where the lid switch is,if it runs then you know the lid switch is bad.also on washers,in the rinse cycle only cold water is used in the final rinse,no cold water the washer won't fill and run,the valve will just hum.let me know how you make out,you could also have a bad timer.if you need more help send the model number

Wont fill when it goes to rinse cycle just sits and hums

There's no water at all If there's no water at all, make these checks: Is there water getting to the machine? Is the water-volume selector switch set properly and are the control panel buttons pressed in all the way? If you have a Maytag® washer, is the fuse (if there is one) in the control panel at the lid-switch bracket blown? Is there a faint buzzing or humming noise coming from the water-inlet valve? (The water-inlet valve is the device on the washing machine that the fill hoses are attached to.) If you can't hear anything, the water-inlet valve may not be getting any power. If you can hear some noise and there's water present, you may need to completely replace the water-inlet valve.

The washer will fill up with water but won't complete the cycle or drain. This has happened before, and I would spin the knob a few times and switch the load size selection. It always randomly started

it sounds like a bad timer there....! if after you selected a different load it drained......!

if it didnt drain at all on any mode I would say a bad lid swtich.

Will not start wash cycle

Sound like the lid switch has went out , you should hear it click when the lid is close to an inch of being closed , they are un-expensive and easy to replace and they go out often from use. Easy to find online with your real model number located under the lid.
Phil
The washer with the grind noise is a main bearing going out and may be covered under warr. through maytag.

Wash cycle will not start

you may have leaned on lid and damaged the lid switch , so the washer thinks the lid is open all the time unit will fill then stop with lid up.
