Battery shows a full charge but wheels won't turn while grounded

I left the charger connected the bike for about 10 days and once my daughter tried to ride the batter won't maintain a charge longer than a minute.  Wheels will not turn while sitting on the ground but if in the air it will turn for approximately one minute then stop.  The low battery light comes on but I check the batter with a multimeter and it shows 36.5vdc.  Any advice would be appreciated.

Battery won't charge up

One or more of the cells in the battery may have died while it wasn't being used. LI-Po batteries are memory resistant but they can still develop one if they're left fully discharged too long or at a half charge too long. They require full charge\discharge cycles to keep them from developing a memory.

ORDER A CLYMER MANUAL FOR YOUR BIKE!!! Everything is easier to inspect with the fairings and accessory covers removed. While you are waiting for the manual, trickle charge your battery. Make sure your charger is a maintainer as well. It charges your battery and keeps it conditioned. Keep in mind, even if it's a new battery, they are not impervious to fault. When you get your manual, two or three days later, the battery should have a full charge as indicated by a green light(normally) on the trickle charger. Now, key your ignition on and get your multimeter. Read for battery voltage on the down side of your ignition switch. Then measure and note the draw from your battery as you hit the start switch. Open your manual and start reading through components like your rectifier, coils, main power fuse (probably a 30A)on your fuse box. Remember, a bad ground within your electrical system will report a failure to allow passable current to the components that need the juice. Look for corrosion or gunk on the contacts of your electrical components. Good luck, let me know how it works out.

My xt125r battery wont hold a charge for more than a couple of days.do you think its the rectifier?please help

Remove the battery from the bike ( or at least remove the positive cable ). Charge the battery but make sure water covers the top of the plates in each cell. When charged, disconnect the charger and let the battery sit for two or three days with the red positive wire still disconnected. Now re-connect the red wire and see if the battery is discharged when 2 or 3 days have passed. If so, get a new battery. The batteries only last 1.5 to 2 years. How old is your battery? If the battery DOES have full power after the 2 or 3 days mentioned, start the bike and check the voltage across the battery terminals while running the engine at about 2000 rpm. The voltage should read around 14 volts. If not, there is a problem with the stator, regulator or rectifier. If your voltmeter does show 14 volts or so, and the battery still drains in 2 or 3 days, You will have to find what is draining it. Abraded wire grounding on the frame? Bad switch? Please rate my answer. Thanks.

You have a battery that has a bad cell maybe, or you may have a short to ground thst is depleting your battery. Charge your battery and disconnect the pos lead and check the battery charge daily. if it falls more than 2 volts over 5 days you have a bad cell and you are probably looking at a new battery. Take a look at the fluid level in each cell. Fluid level that uncovers the plates may be the problem. You have to check the level at least once a month unless you have a maintenance free battery.

Procedure for attaching a battery charger to a 2004 XL1200 Sportster Roadster please?

If you remove the seat and the battery cover, you can connect the battery charger positive lead directly to the positive battery terminal. Or, you can connect it to the battery connection at the starter, whichever is easiest to get to. Connect the negatve charger clamp to either the negative battery post or any good ground on the engine or frame of the bike. Once connected, turn the charger on with a 2-amp per hour charge rate.

Good Luck

The lights are on showing that it is charged but will not go. It is only 10 months old.

If the charger is left plugged in longer then 24 hours you may over charge the batteries and they will not work properly. Also You must charge the batteries once a month even if it hasn't been used.

Lift up the back end of the gocart and see if the wheels spin when you pull the throttle. If you only get a clicking sound start by replacing the control modulator. 10 months old your batteries should be still good unless you over charged them. (Leaving plugged in longer then a day) Good luck...

Make sure that the charger is fully connected to the scooter; ususally the controller lights will go slowly left to right to indicate it is charging. Make sure the charger is plugged directly into the grounded wall outlet, not into an extension cord or power bar. If the charger is not being recognized by the scooter, you may need to replace the charger, or at least the power cord to the charger.
If your scooter has been sitting unused for a while? If so, the batteries might not charge anymore and will need to be replaced. Contact the manufacturer for a service call or troubleshooting over the phone.
Good luck!
