SOURCE: KitchenAid 600, Stand Mixer -

Hi. Stop using your mixer. If your mixer is still covered by warranty, call Kitchenaid Customer Service, they are very good with warranty repairs.

If your mixer is out of warranty, remove the silver band that surrounds the top of mixer. Remove the top cover. At the front of the mixer, locate the transmission housing which is now exposed. Examine this housing carefully for cracks. If you find cracks anywhere in this housing, you have found the under-engineered plastic transmission housing. Kitchenaid's replacement housing is made of metal. Your plastic housing has no business being in a mixer that is marketed as being able to mix bread dough. It cannot!

If you're confident that you can make the repairs yourself, go to the Kitchenaid website and download the parts drawings. Remove the Trans. housing, remove the worm gear shaft assembly which is driven by the motor.. Remove and save as much grease as necessary to thoroughly inspect the worm gear. Inspect the worm shaft bearings. Look for cracks, or missing pieces on the bearings. Look for crunched cogs on all gears. Be prepared to wait at least a month for your parts to arrive after you order them. The replacement grease should be Shell Darina 2, or Chevron FM ALC EP 2.

If you're not confident about repairing this yourself, call Kitchenaid and determine the nearest "approved" repair shop.

You may be able to pressure Kitchenaid to pay for the damaged parts in your mixer. They are still installing these plastic Trans. housing on new mixers. Insist on a metal cover when replacing. Apparently, Kitchenaid feels no shame in their manufacturing process, and will not issue a recall notice for these housings. They are substandard at best.

If you found this solution helpful, please rate it. Good luck! ricardok45.

SOURCE: bread dough hook slips when mixing

This is not a solution but I think you have a serious problem you might have sheared some gear teeth whent the mixer jammed and it only manifests itself under a heavy load, I would take it to a repair guy, those mixers are expensive and it would be worth it.

SOURCE: The dough hook is stuck in the beater shaft of kitchenaid mixer

It sounds like it got overloaded when you last mixed dough. It will only come off the way it went on. If it has been bent on, it may need a bit of gentle encouragement.

When mixing cookie dough my kitchenaid mixer bogs down when the dough gets thicker .. replaced the brushes already and runs better but still bogs down .. does it need a new motor?

When using the dough hook the speed should be no higher than 2. That said, there is a limit as to how thick a dough the Artisan mixer can handle and you may well have reached that. Under these circumstances it is normal for the motor to slow down.

If the stress becomes too great, the worm (follower) gear will fail protecting the motor from burning out.

The Service Manual covering your model can be found at:

KitchenAid ACCOLADE 400 Mixer. When mixing dough the bowl jumps out of the bowl lock. How do in resolve this problem?

Make sure that the bowl is fully tightened in the bowl lock. If this does not solve the problem it may be that the lock disc itself needs to be replaced or that the amount of dough is more than the dough hook can handle.

How do i insert dough hooks into stand mixer professional 600??? There are no holes.

Your Flat Beater, Wire Whip and Dough Hook attachement ends should
look the same. They are inserted onto the beater shaft and held in place
by a single pin. The reason you cannot attach the dough hook to the
beater shaft because it is the wrong hook for your particular model.

KitchenAid stand mixer KSM50PWH. Was kneading dough with dough hook attachment and it quit turning. Motor works fine but the part that's supposed to go round and round doesn't. Can I fix this?

The Nylon Worm Gear has stripped. This is designed into the part so if the Mixer gets overloaded, it won't burn out the motor. Which is odd if you have the reset switch like I do.

You can buy it online at Kitchenaid.com

I have a kitchenaid 600 professional stand mixer. I was told that you can only use the dough hook with setting 2 for only 5 minutes. What do you do for recipes requiring a longer time for kneading? Is...

You can knead longer than that, but you run the risk of over heating the mixer because at that point the dough is very firm. Your best bet is to knead it by hand.
