It looks like your compression is too low (worn rings from dusted motor) Push starting spins the motor faster than kick starting and when hot the rings expand just enough to seal off. Before kicking a cold motor try putting in a squirt or two of engine oil in the plug hole to see if there is a difference.

Testimonial: "squirting engine oil wont hurt it being a two stroke?"

I start my Yamaha Banshee 350 ATV, it starts fine and idles fine but when I start riding it and gets a bit over half throttle it starts backfiring really bad. Any suggestions on what to look for? TIA

Question edited for FULL 'make model (what it is)', from 'banshee'.
Question moved from Motorcycles to correct Category.

Check spark plugs.
Clean Carb.
Check timing.

More here, it is a known issue.

Yfz350 banshee kick start bound up

pull the kicker case cover, probably something simple jammed up in there...if you didnt break her in keeping revs under 2000rpm for 10-20 hours you may have broke something internal again, lets hope not

I have a 06 banshee with fmf pipes it won't start

sounds like your rings are shot, Prob only runs at high rpm & dies when gets lower and wont tick over, try kicking it over slowly with your foot can you feel the compreesion cycles , if not defo rings

2003 yamaha banshee it is very hard to start, when it finally turns on I have to hold the throttle if not it will just turn off,,

Have you check the choke position?
When you got it going does it rev up high immediately, if yes then you choke is stuck wide open.
Good enough?

Yamaha banshee will not start

Did you accidentally cross the spark plug wires?
Other wise its going to be hard to diagnose,
Do you have plenty of compression,
Are you getting gas to the spark plugs?
Is the air filter clean/new?
You will need a factory service manual to diagnose further if all the above is ok
