Technics SL-D303 motor noise

I ''won'' a Technics SL-D303 direct drive turntable on e-bay. As it's cartridge moves over the inner half of the platter it begins to pick up some sort of electronic grumbling noise, I suppose from the drive motor. This happens even with the cartridge suspended over the rotating platter. The noise gets louder as the cartridge approaches the center spindle. The noise is loudest with a Grado Blue cartridge (naturally), but even my Shure M97xE, ADC Integra XLM-III, and Shure RXP-3 pick up the noise. All cartridge to RCA jack connections show good continuity and the platter seems well grounded through the ground wire. What can I do to curb this unwanted noise?

Thanks for looking!

After a Web search I found a nearby Technics certified repair shop. It's technician found and replaced several bad motor capacitors which completely cured the problem with most of the cartridges I own. The SL-D303 still doesn't like my Grado Blue which still picks up the motor noise - albeit at a much diminished level - but Grados have problems with both my direct drive turntables. My SHURE M97xE is sounding really great on it's tone arm.

I had not used my turntable for about five years due to no needle. Found a needle and played two LPs, then on the third one, it just did not move or work at all. It lit up but just acted like it had no...

The low grinding noise could be the motor spinning with "no load" i.e the belt has snapped or fallen off due to being perished.
Lift the platter to refit the belt and or replace it if required.

Motor problem?

If its still working then GREAT! The direct drive system uses magnetic frequency to drive the table platter. If you havnt already....Remove the platter and clean the coke off the magnet under it. Not sure at this point but hope that helps!

My platter spins fast out of control

At a guess from the minimal informaton given, i would say the drive motor has gone. I would suggest taking it to your nearest dealer or service center for a full overhaul, appart from that, visit e-bay.

Tecnics turntable Model SL-L26

Terry, Remove the rubber mat from top of platter. This will expose two slots in the aluminum platter. Lift aluminum platter straight up and off. On the underneath side of platter is a surface that the belt will fit on, place the belt there(approximately half the diameter of the platter) With the belt mounted on platter, reinstall platter to turntable. Slowly rotate platter until you can see the drive motor pulley, stop. Carefully reach down and pull belt over drive motor pulley (make sure not to twist belt) Rotate platter to ensure smooth operation and belt tracking. VOLA! Reinstall rubber mat and vynil on!!

Changing the belt on a Technics SL-3 (Linear tracking) turntable

Instructions on installation of your drive belt - this also applies to other brands as well - however this belt is only for the Technics models listed above:
  1. Remove the turntable platter off from the turntable
  2. Remove the old/damage belt
  3. Wrap the new belt underneath the turntable platter - you will see a small lip on the bottom of the platter. Wrap the belt around this lip.
  4. Put the platter back on the turntable
  5. The turntable platter will have small holes, rotate the platter until you see the motor, and the motor shaft.
  6. Pinch the belt, so that it wraps around the motor shaft
  7. Turn on and enjoy!

How to replace drive belt for model.# SL-BD22 ?

Nope, very simple...

1) Remove the platter - just lift up
2) Underneath the platter, you'll see a small lip section
3) Wrap the belt around this lip
4) Put platter back on turntable
5) Rotate platter until you see the motor shaft through the holes on the platter - a brass round looking piece
6) Pinch the belt around the motor shaft.
7) That's it.

I need to put new turntable belt on a Technics SL-B200

The belt goes underneath the turntable platter. First you attach to the lip on the bottom of the turntable platter, then you put the platter on the turntable. You'll see some holes on the platter, after you put it on, just rotate the platter, until you see the motor shaft, then pinch the belt around the motor shaft.

How do i put my belt back on a technics dc servo automatic turntable system SL-B210 i havnt used it for a while so when i got it out to use the belt was lose uder the thing the disc gose on

Remove the platter, then take the belt, and wrap it to the bottom lip of the platter. You'll see an inner lip underneath the platter... this is where the belt goes.

Next, put the platter back on, and you'll see 2 holes on alternate sides of the platter. Rotate the platter until the brass shaft of the motor is exposed - usually @ the 11 o'clock position. Pinch the belt and pull it out, to wrap around the shaft.

That's it.

Good luck!
