My Casio Exilim EX-S600 works great, but at every startup it needs all it's basic info entered (ie, Language, Home City, date and time). A friend told me the "internal battery" is dead. Does anyone know if that is true, and if so how should I go about replacing it? Camera is 1yr old. Have two batteries - same issue with either battery. Tried different cards too.
Even casio seem confused by this question! It seems that the camera will loose it's settings if the battery is dead or the camera is not connected via USB. The camera has an internal condenser that acts as a battery. Is also looks like a watch baterry buy VERY SMALL. The brand is Shoei ans model is PAS414HR. After some years it loosed the ability to keep the memory powerd while you recharge or replace the removable battery. This condenser is welded to the camera's internar circuits and shoul be replaced by a good technician.
I'm not sure how many of you are from Canada and I'm not sure how the Casio warranty repair centers are in other parts of the world, but I sent my 3+ year old EX-S600 (purchased Jan 2nd '06) in to Casio Canada's repair center near Toronto, Ontario, and I received it back within 7 days fully repaired. It appears they through a factory v1.00 firmware on there and perhaps did a memory wipe or something (thats just what I noticed, they couldn't give me any more details). I upgraded back to v1.02 to get SDHC support for 8GB/16GB SD cards and so far so good, no problems anymore, settings are saved whenever I power off/on the camera. There was no charge for the repairs, and chances are this is because it required to replacement parts (the person on the phone that I spoke to before sending the camera in said that if there were no parts required that it would likely be free). So its worth a call to your local Casio repair center to see if you can get yours repaired even if its out of warranty as it should be an easy fix for them and cost both them and you the price of S/H, nothing more (in my case just $7 Canadian).

That doesn't make sense. I've never charged my camera using the cradle - I've always had to remove the rechargeable battery and charge it externally. However, it only started making me reset the date and time recently (after 2 years of NOT having to do that). There MUST be an internal battery of some sort because it retained my date and time info with the battery removed up until a couple of months ago. Now I have to reset it with every battery change. Hmmm..
I had this problem and all I had to do was hook the camera up to my computer and click reformat on the camera icon in My Computer (you have to right click to reformat something its in the little popup menu. Sorry about the grammer and stuff I am trying to fix a bigger problem that invovles my EX-S600 being subirsed in water completly GOOD LUCK!!

My camera got immersed in soap (yea, i know.. HOW? haha). It turns on and is able to take pictures but after about 10 seconds it restarts to the date setup screen. so how do ya fix that? o.O
Mine just started doing the same thing out of the blue...not submersed in anything. Each time I turn on the camera I have to go through all the menus...local city, month, time, etc. I work on a Mac, so I was unable to "reformat" as suggested in one solution. I tried running the battery all the way down and recharging completely, but no luck. Please help, this is very annoying!

Formatting doesn't solve the problem, neither does changing the NP-20 battery...

I still have not solved this problem. Have tried everything! even attempted to "format" camera from a PC (I am a mac user). I'm only able to format the internal memory and that doesn't have an effect on the problem. I have the waterproof housing for this camera, so my investment is great (the housing cost more than the camera). I purchased another camera as a backup.
Same old, same old, my camera makes e go through all the time and date settings every time I turn it on...what is more annoying is the fact that I can't save recording settings. Formatting the internal memory does nothing for this problem. I'd like to hear more about this "internal battery" issue.
I have this exact same problem after having this camera for 3 years. It just started about a week ago. At that time it would happen once out of 10 times, now its happening every time the camera is powered off. I have two different NP-20 batteries so that is definitely not the problem. I removed the housing (the body) of the camera and snooped around but I did not see any batteries internally (although I did not go deep inside). It MUST be an internal issue of some sort, not battery related, because it loses its settings even when there is no battery inserted and it is being powered by the docking station...
Anyone have any idea what it would cost to get this thing repaired in Canada (or USA)? I don't mind buying a new camera but it is pretty crappy that this camera can't be used as a hand-me-down or a backup... hmmrph
I have the same annoying problem. I hadn't used my camera for a while so I figured that it was just because my battery had gone dead. Even after replacing the battery the problem persists. I have tried reformatting and reseting but nothing seems to be working. It is just over a year old and has just run out of warranty. Any suggestions? Thanks!Â
Also have to reset all the settings every time the camera is turned on: the language, time, date, etc. Camera works otherwise, but is a hassle to have to go through the whole setup everytime it's turned on.
Every time start up the camera, reset every thing. :(
Even I had changed the internal backup 3V button cell.
