Bridging a Motorola SBG900 to a Speedstream 4200

I have a Speedstream 4200 ADSL for my internet connection. I have a spare Motorola SBG900 (no access to cable internet) and have just bought a laptop. I want to use the SBG900 as a router only, for the wireless technology, but can't find the bridging function. The laptop is connected to the SBG but can't connect to the internet, the desktop is on.
Thank you.

You can't use the Motorola SBG900 for that. The only way it might work is if the Motorola SBG900 had a 4-port Ethernet switch built into it.

SOURCE: Downloading Problem with Motorola SBG900 Wireless Cable Modem Gateway

Sounds like your laptop is hit with spyware and or viruses. Try starting it in safe mode (F8) and seeing if you still have this problem. If it works in safe mode go to grisoft.com and download the antimalware free trial. Restart in normal mode and install and run the trial version.

Your modem needs to be rebooted in order for your router to pull an IP from the modem. To do this, look for a little hole in the back of your modem and use a pen to push the button. Wait for the reboot to finish and then try again in about 20 seconds.

SOURCE: Connect Wirelessly on SBG900

Your wireless adapter may not support 11g Enhanced wireless, which was my issue. Check your settings @ 192.168.0.1 and try switching to 11b/11g Standard wireless.

To get there, go to 192.168.0.1, Click "Wireless" on the left side, then click "Network" on the top.

Also, set the router to channel 11 for best results. (In my case, usually channels 6-11 work best)

Setup your IP addresses correctly by checking available IP addies in router.

You will have to know your router addie and your available wireless addies (in router). For this you need to enter router configuration (read manual).

Open network properties, tcp/ip properties, check "use following ip addie and enter something like 192.168.1.5 depending on what your router is setup as available.

Enter same subnet as your router.

Enter DNS server addies from you ISP.

SOURCE: sbg900 wireless connectivety

I had that long time ago. Now I do not broadcast ESSID and changed the channel to 11 (I also use Vonage and when the call was placed the wifi was dropped. No longer).
Changing the MTU to 1452 (on the gateway) helps with the connection. Just to make sure I assigned the first IP address a bit away from the starting point, .10 so that somebody around having the same would not confuse my settings.

I have a siemens 4200 adsl modem i had a net gear modem before and that was not working with wireless internet and now this modem wont let me connect wireless either only with the ethernet cabel. help!

Hello Mate,
the siemens speedstream 4200 is a DSL modem/Router which doesn't have wireless connection. So even tough if you have a computer equiped with a wireless adapter, you will not be able to connect wirelessly because the siemens 4200 doesn't act as wireless access point.
You may need next time to check first if the modem/router to buy support wireless (wifi g or n) and make sure that it's not only a modem, it should be also a router.
i attached here some references for you from the top brands:
1. Linksys DSL modem/Router with wireless N: http://www.linksysbycisco.com/MEA/en/products/WAG120N
2. Linksys DSL modem/Router with Wireless G: http://www.linksysbycisco.com/ANZ/en/products/WAG54G
You can find other brands as Dlink, Netgear ...

No activity on my new speedstream 4200

Ethernet and DSL lights are indicating you have ADSL available on your line, and that you have computers connected to the router.

What has probably happened is that Optus did not set up the new router with your username and password. Go to thw following website for details on how to setup the modem.

http://help.optuszoo.com.au/help/dsl/connected/windows/optus_modems/speedstream_4200

Manual Modem Settings The Optus DSL Broadband self-installation CD configures all the necessary settings for your DSL Broadband service. You do not need to manually configure your modem if you have run the self-installation CD. While the following information is provided for your reference, using the self-installation CD is the recommended method for configuring your modem.
The Siemens SpeedStream 4200 ADSL modem can use either USB or Ethernet to connect to your computer.
  • If you are connecting via USB you will need to run the self-installation CD to install the USB driver before you connect your modem. The Siemens SpeedStream 4200 ADSL modem supplied by Optus has been customised for the Optus DSL Broadband service. Only the USB driver supplied on the self-installation CD will work with the Optus service. If you do not have the self-installation CD, you can download the latest drivers from the Siemens website.
  • If you are connecting via Ethernet it is possible to manually configure your modem without the self-installation CD. Only a web browser is required.
After connecting your modem there are two key steps to manually configure your modem for the Optus DSL Broadband service:
  • PC settings - Configure your computer's Ethernet network interface.
  • Configure Your Modem - Set the password in your modem's configuration pages.
top
PC Settings Step by step instructions are provided for each of the supported Windows operating systems:
  • Windows 98/Me
  • Windows 2000
  • Windows XP
  • Windows Vista
top
Configure Your Modem To configure your modem settings you must now access the configuration manager using your web browser. This is done by entering the IP address in the address bar of the browser window as follows:
Note: If you are updating the password in your modem, please complete steps 1 to 3 only.
Step 1 of 5
  • Enter http://10.1.1.1 (Default IP address of the Optus Supplied Siemens SpeedStream 4200) to access the modem Configuration software. You may wish to add this page to your Favorites for easy access later.
  • The following modem System Summary screen will appear.
ss4200_home_disconnected.gif Step 2 of 5
  • Click on the word Setup in the green menu of options on the left side of the web page. An expanded set of options will be displayed.
  • Click PPP in the list of options that appeared below the word Setup.
  • The ISP Password page will appear:
ss4200_ppp.gif
  • Replace the default username ([email protected]) with the username provided for you by Optus DSL Broadband.
  • Replace the default password with the password provided by Optus DSL Broadband in the Password field.
  • Note: You will find your Optus DSL Broadband username and password on the letter you received with your self-installation kit.
  • Save these details by clicking the Save Settings button.
Step 3 of 5
  • The next screen will ask you to disconnect and reconnect to the Optus DSL Broadband service.
ss4200_ppp_reconnect.gif
  • Click the link to return to the System Summary page.
ss4200_reboot_3.gif
  • Click the Disconnect button to disconnect the modem from the Optus DSL Broadband service. The text on the button will change to Connect.
ss4200_home_disconnected.gif
  • Click Connect to reconnect the modem to the Optus DSL Broadband service.
Step 4 of 5
  • Click on the word Setup in the green menu of options on the left side of the web page. An expanded set of options will be displayed.
  • Click the word Mode in the green menu of options on the left side of the web page.
ss4200_mode.gif
  • Confirm that Optus Bridge is the selected operation mode.
  • If Optus Bridge is not selected click the radio button next to Optus Bridge to select it.
  • Click the Apply button.
Step 5 of 5 ss4200_reboot_1.gif
  • Click the Reboot button to restart the modem using your saved settings.
ss4200_reboot_2.gif
  • After about a minute the modem will return to an operational state and connect to the Optus DSL Broadband service.

Your modem is now connected to the Optus DSL Broadband service.

Static Ip with Speedstream 4200 Modem

I am assuming here with the way you have it set up your getting an internet connection.
what you saying i understsand mostly so i'll see if i can help you
first of all you have speedstreem modem that connects to you isp, this is assign your internet address from the isp if you paid for a static IP it would be in here, if not it's assiged by a dhcp from your isp company so if you if turn it off or have a power loss for anymore than 5-15min your ip changes.
now your modem then connects into your belkin router this as well as your modem it's prob set up as dhcp so it wants to issue each computer with an internal address of 192.168.0.X the reason for this is so it knows where to send the incomming information to what computer.
no matter what computer your using the address that goes over the internet will be the one assigned to modem from internet provider so if this need to be static IP to run your game server you will have contact your internet provider for an address.
but you may be confussing the issue a little, my suggestion to you would be:
1. go to your connections on each computer
2. right click on the lan connection choose properties
3. go to internet protocol (TCP/IP) then click properties
4. then click on obtain ip automatically and obtain dns automatically
this will remove the static windows address you may have put in.
try this and see if you can get you game or game server will work.
btw you may have to reboot your computers after this to get be sure to get the new address.

Siemens Speedstream 4200 NetComm V300 on VOIP

When the V300 Line/Phone led flash in alternating fashion, it's telling you it's WAN connection is dead. The WAN light is off too. so internet and VoiP phone will not work

When the V300 Line/Phone led flash in sync, it can't register to the SIP server.

The V300 does not appear to be listed on the Mynetfone website though. Have you checked to see that your V300 has the latest Firmware. LINK

It may be that the V300 is not getting it's IP renewed. Can you alter the IP lease time? Do you have the V300 set up for PPPoE, or do you have it set to static or DHCP (refer CH4, page 25)

Can't connect to the internet wirelessly

Well, to avoid confusion, I'd start by doing a factory reset. Insert the straightened end of a paperclip into the reset hole and power up the device to do this. From there, the device should begin broadcasting the default wireless network with the name (SSID) of "Motorola." The DHCP server should also be enabled and if your computer is configured to receive an automatically assigned IP address your wireless network interface should pick up an IP. The security for the "Motorola" network is disabled by default.

Basic troubleshooting from there would be to try to see if you can connect your wireless computer to another wireless network that is know to be working well. Either buy and return another wireless access point or router from a retailer or head to a Starbucks or other establishment that offers free wireless. If the wireless computer is hooking up nicely with the secondary wireless network, you can refocus on the SBG900 as the likely source of the problem.

If after attempting the aforementioned procedures you find that the wireless computer continues to fail to connect to the SBG900 you might have to consider that you have a faulty device. At that point I would consider consulting the manufacturer's documentation.

Speedstream 4200 setup

I have just set up 4200 with dsl - you may find that you need to reset modem before you can configure. I was told that you need either a grey or yellow cable from your laptop to the modem. I use 10.0.0.138 to access modem. The 4200 I have was from a bigpond a/c - originally configured accordingly.
