Kenmore Elite HE4-lots of heat, clothes not drying

Had the unit for 16 months, the air movement seems strong, air is moist, heat is hot, drum spins fine. With what seems to be working fine takes my clothes 90 minutes to dry on high temp heat. Your thoughts?

Thank you for the suggestion. I pulled the vent off the back of the dryer, my long lost fishing liscense fell out of the vent. Must have block the air flow, everything seems to be working normally.

    Kind Regards,

Poor drying problems with dryers generally are attributed to clogged ducting. You have probably heard this before, but the first (and least expensive) fix for any dryer with long dry times is to check the air movement. As well know, dryers require good air flow to ensure proper drying. Now, when you said the air movement is strong, were you checking it at the air vent exhaust outside, or were you checking on the back of the dryer? An easy way to tell if there's a clog in the ducting, or a clog in the dryer is to run one load with the dryer vent disconnected from the back of the machine. Only run one load like this. Not a good idea to blow hot moist air into an enclosed area of your home over a period of time because it can cause mildew problems. If the dryer blows freely and your clothes dry faster, you know you need to check the ducting from where it connects to the wall to where it ends at the exhaust vent. Often it is not enough to just clean the lint trap and the outside vent. You need to check what's in between them as well. Mice and birds are notorious for building nests in dryer vents and clogging them up. Now...if the dryer is blowing poorly at the exhaust port on the back of the dryer, you will need to remove the door kick panel under the door and remove the vent duct housing to get to the blower fan. Make sure you unplug the dryer before attempting this. There are live voltages present even with the dryer turned off. Lint can get trapped in vent housing and restrict the movement of the fan, which, in turn, will cause poor air movement and longer dry times. Last of all, take a temperature reading at the exhaust port on the back of the dryer. A good temperature reading is roughly 140 degrees F. If the temperature is too low, you may have an operating thermostat or high limit thermostat malfunctioning. Check your vent ducting, first and let me know if you need further assistance. I hope this helps you.

Why is my Whirlpool cabrio platinum dryer leaking water, and taking over an hour to dry clothes?

Is this an older dryer? Long drying times are often caused by lack of good heating or poor air movement through the drum. Air movement depends on a properly turning fan and a clear exit of hot moist air to the outside vent. Check and see if you get a strong blast of air from your outside vent. If you don't, you may have a fan problem, plugged vent, or kinked vent tube. The water leaking could be because you don't have any drying going on due to the aforementioned problems.

My dryer heats up but does not dry clothes. I check ventilation and lint trap, there is no buildup. what could cause it to take forever to dry clothes?

If the drum gets hot to a real degree it has to be a blockage between the drum to where the air exits the home.

They do make a brush designed to go into the area where the lint trap is and be long enough to come out the rear of the unit---A lot of places will come out and professionally clean from trap to vent outlet

A blockage can be dangerous as hundreds of fires happen each year from the lint catching fire in the dryer.

The tube to the outside may seem clear but if blockage anywhere from lint trap to it, that will cause this problem and present a possible fire hazard.

Its not unlike having your vac not pick things up very well...except there is rarely a fire with that.

The dryer runs but it does not have any hot air to dry the clothes

It sounds like the heater element has gone south, but not a hard change. It should be accessible thru a cover inside the drum.just make SURE the power is OFF

ALOT OF MOISTURE LEFT IN DRYER. TAKES 2 OR 3 CYCLES TO DRY

If your clothes are getting hot but are still moist it means the moisture is not being vented properly. Check your vent pipe for blockages. Also check that the length of your vent pipe is not to long (under 8ft).

Kenmore elite smartheat quitpak electric dyer

Hello talee725. the dryer has heat sensors located throughout. One at the air intake & exchaust of the heating element including the air exchaust of the drum. Disconnect the AC power, close the gas valve is gas powered, clean them and check the sensors with a DVM in the ohm scale for open ckt. They are usely round in shape with 2 wires connected. If test open call a local appliance parts/repair center for price and stock.

Clothes not drying

A couple of possibilities to check. First, is the lint trap empty? If so, then the symptoms point to hot air bypassing the drum. Look for broken or misaligned plastic ducting inside the dryer itself. Check the exhaust air for moisture, as that is a better indicator than temperature. Don't forget that towels hold an enormous amount of water, & can be extremely long in drying, especially if not spun enough.
