I have undone the two screws at the bottom and loosened the bottom flap, but still can't find a way to access the battery to replace it.

Dead useful Falter!

OK - remove the 2 screws on the bottom, then to open the unit you have to unclip the end panels... from the back, use an old card of some sort (I just used a hotel room key)
If you need to, cut a slight angle on an edge to let you force it into the groove. slide it about, pushing outwards and you should find the ends will un clip. there are then 2 more screws on either end to un do. The back then carefully unclips from the top and bottom panel. the battery is then free to be replaced.

Great instructions, thanks, very sticky tape holding battery down so be careful not to snap the circuit board, I used a card to prize it off

Contact Hasbro or get someone to 3D print one.

How do you change the batteries on a furreal cat? Pull back the plush flap on the bottom of the Cat. Use a Phillips/cross head screwdriver to loosen screw in battery compartment cover (screw stays attached to cover) on the bottom. Insert 3 x 1.5V "C"/LR14 alkaline batteries. Replace cover and tighten screw.

How do I replace a battery in this device?

Replace the Battery
  1. Remove five screws: two on the side, two on the bottom and one on the back behind the lanyard hook. When that screw is removed, remove the lanyard hook insert.
  2. Slide the metal backing down as shown in the photo. Then pull it straight up.
  3. Unhook the ribbon connection attached to the metal backing by lifting up on the brown flap where the ribbon is connected. The ribbon will then slide out.
  4. Pull the hard drive back as shown in the photo.
  5. Remove two screws near the bottom of the player. One is on the bottom and one is on the right side near the battery switch.
  6. The battery is now exposed. You can disconnect it by gently pulling on the red and black cables.
