Are you trying to record and listen at the same time? It doesn't usually work that way, the computer has to process and encode the audio signals before they can be listened to. Once you restore the computer, are you able to listen to the recording? If you have onboard sound, rather than a separate sound card, all the audio processing is done by your CPU. If you are trying to listen to the audio as it is being recorded, you are probably overloading the capabilities of the device and its shutting itself down. Try to record without listening. Also make sure you have the latest drivers. If it is onboard audio, check the manufacturer's website for updates. If you know that it is Realtek AC 97 (probably says so your manual), you can download new drivers from the Realtek website.
You can find the latest VIA AC 97' Audio driver here: Win XP: http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx?PageID=2&OSID=1&CatID=1010 Win Vista: http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx?PageID=2&OSID=36&CatID=2910
If you can tell me what motherboard and windows version you need the drivers for I might be able to be more precise.
Install a copy of Everest or PC Wizard on your PC. This will tell you everything you want to know about the hardware on your computer. When you locate the sound card you can then search the web for the drivers.
Hi,
go to website VIA technologies.
AC 97 driver is an audio chip driver, for your motherboard.
you,ll probably need motherboard information ( make-model-et,c ) If you just type in AC97 loads will come up. this is asking for a specific driver, for a certain Chipset on your Motherboard.
