put the two files "ypp2.rom, ypp2.rsc" both in the root and the folder "datecasts" before you upgrade

I had the same problem!
But I found the fix for it after much searching.
First, download the latest firmware directly to your computer's desktop from the Samsung website: http://tinyurl.com/3j4su4
The file is a Zip one so : make sure you extract the 2 files to your desktop!
-Connect your P2 to your computer and go to My Computer.
-Double click the YP2 icon.
-Copy the 2 extracted files from your desktop into the open window. (Do not put them in an already existant folder).
-Unplug the connection from your computer and restart your player.
It will do an update and shut down. Restart it a second time and it will finish the second update.
- There you go, it should work no problem.
The firmware update from having your player connected to the Samsung Media Studio 5 for some reason doesn't work properly.
By doing in manually it works just fine.
The update link I provided is for a US based player.
Just go through the Samsung site to find an update for other contries if you need too and follow the same directions I give above to solve your issues.
Hope this helps!!!

Make sure your Windows Media Player installation is complete and uncorrupoted. Try reinstalling WMP11 from the Microsoft website (WGA workarounds do not work for this purpose). Also try updating your USB drivers: just delete the existing ones in Device Manager, reboot and let Windows reinstall them.
