If it won't unlock with key possibility lock mechanism is stuck in lock. I have come across this several times. The actuator sticks in the lock mode and won't move to the unlock. This may or may not be easy to remedy depends on the design of lock mechanism.
if your just programming the fob to the module and it has not been replaced and your just needing a manual reset, then follow the folowing procedure:
1 Insert key into ignition 2 Turn key to 'I" 3 Turn key "II" and back to 'I' quickly 4 times 4 Alarm system will chime once when key is back to 'I' for the fourth time 5 Remove key from ignition 6 Press any button on each key fob and alarm system will chime for each fob if it has been programmed correctly 7 Press unlock/lock/trunk etc to make sure everything works
Hie kshep05,i'm having the same problem on my x type which i bought last week. it just started doing that yesterday and i am @ my wits end. Have you had a solution or diagnosis for your problem?
The switchblade key would need to be compatable with your ignition switch barrel. Only normally available from jag dealers who check the Jag owners register before supplying you a replacement.
The older type seperate fobs could be programmed by switching the ignition on and off 8 times (allowing all functions to settle) and on the 9th switch on - press a button on each fob and then switch off. to test use a good fob to lock the car then try the reprogammed fob to unlock/lock. Sometimes this works first time - sometimes needs a couple of tries.
Seperate key fobs only can be programmed in the following way.
Turn ignition on/off 8 x times (allow all functions to stabilise) after the 9th on - press a button on both remote fobs. then turn ign. off. use good remote to lock and then try new remote to unlock/lock. sometimes it works first time - sometimes you have to repeat actions. good luck.
I am assuming your problem is similar to mine; the key fob isn't dead, but for some reason the boot won't release. This happens rarely, but can be very frustrating (and embarrassing)!
When neither the key fob nor the release on the boot work, lock and unlock the car, and insert the key into the ignition. Turn the key to the second stage, i.e. the accessories are powered, and then remove the key. This ought to allow you to use the fob again.
