I would start with the o2 sensor first if its not working right it will set off the knock sensor but beware of vaccum leaks sounds like your running lean

Hi! May I ask when was your last engine oil change? Maybe now is the time. When the oil is burnt it makes annoying noise coming from the engine plus a poor performance can be expected. I suggest that you have an oil change and please do check on the radiator fan. If the fan motor is weak it makes the engine hot and run sluggish. Please write back and tell me how it goes. Rough idle on a 2000 echo when warm no check engine light
If it is an ignition miss, it should turn the check engine light on and give you a code for which cylinder.
A fuel problem or mechanical problem would not always make the warning light come on. Once the engine warms up the O2 sensor gives the computer data to cut back on fuel.
You might want to check the computer for trouble codes to see if anything has been stored.

I've gutted all my catalytic converters and car still wont accelerate smoothly or go over 80 mph
gutting the cat converters was not a smart thing to do
the ECM needs feed back from the sensors to regulate the air/fuel mixture and now you expect it to do the job with half the sensors removed
like trying to brush your teeth with no hands
replace the cat converters with new ones then run the fault codes to really find the problem area

Change your plugs and run a couple of bottles of injector cleaner through it. Sounds like you have some carbon buildup. Also check the catalytic converter for excessive back pressure. i hope this helps.

I had a Nissan doing this to me a little while ago, but couldn't figure out the problem. A couple weeks later, the lady told me she took the car to a shop and they replaced the crank and cam sensors. My bet is that it was the crank sensor.

2000 nissan maxima On warm days I get a check engine light and the car smells like anti freeze . The temp gauge never shows it is hot. we have only had a few days above 65F so it has not been happening...
Replace your overflow cap. The seal under the cap goes bad and can no longer hold under pressure and will seep out a little or a lot, it also won't always give a check engine light except if it gets below the refill sensor. This is the cheapest trick to go with and then if this isn't it, at least you haven't spent $200. Do you see fluid on the ground or does the overflow tank look chalky white?

does your check engine light come on then go off? it could be a fuel injector canistor has some carbon build up. a volvo mech can clean it in about 20 minutes.
