Our basement flooded a few months ago while I was in Afghanistan, submerging the lower half of our electric dryer. The washer works fine, but the dryer only hums when the start button is pushed. The lights come on, I can smell the heater element warming up(not the smell of burning wiring), and the drum turns with the normal amount of resistance. The belt is still on, and I can move the belt by hand when I reach in from behind. Does the motor have to be replaced, can this machine be repaired? If so, how the heck do you get to it? I removed one panel only to be faced with a jumbled mess of blower and heater elements. I would like to avoid the cost of a new dryer until we build our new home. Thanks.
You do need a new motor.ypu need to take 2 screws out of top where lint filter goes.take top up and their will be 2 screws one on each side take scres out and pull upward and forward and the front panel will come off.you will need to remove belt and tub then you will see motor.you will need to be able to grab back side of motor that attaches to blower and front shaft of motor and turn opposite way to come loose from blower.you will then take back clip off and front clip and unplug motor and pull out.good luck hope instructions helped.

the description was spot-on, making the repair easy. now I'm waiting on a replacement motor instead of buying a new dryer. Thank you.
