Cabinet heater switch or timer if gone. Ice is building up and blocking the vent from the freezer to the refrigerator where the cold air has to travel.. Call the ge repair people.

The codensor fan is not running. I have the same problem. I had the fan replaced a year ago for the same problem, so I can't tbelieve it's the fan. I am guessing something on the circuit board is not letting the fan kick on. I don't have a definite answer yet, but the fan not running is the main issue you are having.

SOURCE: Refridgerator & freezer not cooling much, ice crystals on inside of freezer

Need you to unplug and remove the back panel in freezer to examine the evaporator coil. Check the defrost element and the defrost thermostat. On the back of the refrigerator is a main control board located behind a panel screwed to the refrigerator back. With the power off through all of this I need you to inspect the control board for burn marks on both sides. Click on link below and enter your model or 1 of 34 models like yours. Place model GSH25JFR in model parts search this will lead you to the many similar models like yours. On diagrams on left of your screen count eight down that shows the circuit board. If no burn marks I will tell you how to test the other parts I mentioned,
Thanks, Sea Breeze

SOURCE: GE side by side GSS20IEP Refrigerator freezer freezing

this is a problem that is no stranger to most GE side by sides; GE has used a glass type defrost heater in the freezer which often fails. If you manually defrost your appliance (unplug and leave doors open for 24 hrs) then plug back in, it will appear to work normally for a few days and gradually build up frost on the evap panel (back panel in the freezer) and eventually the refrigerator side will seem to loose cooling due to frosted damper, or lack of cold air transfer over the evap coil. The fix for this is to replace the defrost heaters (s). While not as common, defrost thermostats can open causing the unit to skip defrost, and even less likely is the defrost control (either mechanical timer or adaptive defrost). First, defrost your appliance, then remove the evap panel and ohm out the heater(s), if open, replace. If they check ok, check your defrost thermostat (small disc like object attached by a clip on the evap. coil itself) for signs of popping open or open ohm readings at normally closed temperatures. Its a good idea to change this anyway when replacing defrost heaters as the two work hand in hand. Last, check the defrost timer by manually advancing the screw advance clockwise until you hear the first click, then check voltage to the defrost heater and thermostat, if no voltage present replace timer. If your appliance is equipped with a adaptive defrost board, refer to the schematic for proper diagnostics.

Freezer makes ice but right food section will not cool. presume no fan to cool right side? should i heaqr a fan run?

You have two fans and one damper door assemly on this refrigerator model. You have a freezer fan that you should hear turn on. With the refrigerator fan, which is located inside upper duct assemly, it should not turn on until you hold the door switch closed. You should also feel air coming out the top duct assembly vent when you hold the swith down. So, in a nutshell, listen for the small fan to turn on inside the refrigerator top duct assembly, feel for airflow, and listen for the freezer evap fan to turn on. There can be many issues, the damper door breaks on these models, the controls boards go out all the time resulting in no fan, the evap fan shorts out sometimes and takes the control board with it. :-> Sorry to overload you but I hope this sheds some light.

Have a GE side by side gsh22sgress unit. Child left freezer door open. Unit ran for days (in non-occupied appartment). Meat thawed. Cleaned unit inside with mild soapy mix. Unit runs but will not cool...

Open door let too much moisture into refrigerator. (The cooling coils, behind the back wall of the freezer compartment, are blocked with frost) If you unplug the refrig for a day or so it will work again, or you can take the back wall out from inside the freezer and melt the frost with a hair blower.

Temp light does not light up and temp does not get cold. inside door latch is broken model #pfs22sisbss

The main control board could solve the display problem . May also solve the cooling problem , but would need to know , if frost build up on back wall inside freezer , are both fans working (freezer and compressor cooling fan) , is the compressor running ,are the coils clean in back of refrig ? Unsure about a "door latch" . The freezer door ,rides on glides , and the magnetic gasket should hold it closed .

GE refrigerator model PSS27MGMBB Freezer is not working

Open the freezer door and look at the back wall. If there is frost on the back wall, you have a defrost problem, which means air cannot circulate over the cooling coils located behind the freezers back wall. You will have to remove the back wall and melt all the frost with a hair blower, then replace the defrost heater. (part number WR51X10055) . This is assuming that the fan by the compressor and the one inside the freezer are working.

GE Monogram side by side not cooling

I had the same problem. GE Man said that since the unit had been allowed to warm so much, we needed to empty it, unplug it, and totally leave it alone for 24 hours for any excess water to drain out. Then, we needed to plug it in and let it run with NO ITEMS INSIDE AND NO OPENING OF THE DOORS AT ALL for 48 hours. After that, we started using it again and it was Perfect!! I thought it was a lost cause, so this worked and didn't cost me a dime!!
