Which Mobo Does My M92p have? They have 2 they use for that model.

I have the Lenovo M92p 3212. It has a i7 chip, a graphics card, 12gigs of RAM etc. For my system they make two motherboards.. one will handle a stronger PSU. How can I tell which mobo I have? I called Lenovo tech support and they couldn't tell me.

The PSU is not the issue. A motherboard will only draw as much power as it needs. If you want to upgrade the PSU then go for it. It will not harm your motherboard, but it may harm your warranty.

true on the warranty...i guess I would have to put the orig. in if something happened. but they sell it for this model.

Just wait for the waranty to run out. Then fit the power supply of your choice. Unless you plan to overclock or turn it into a proper gaming machine, you should have no trouble with the PSU that came with it.

SOURCE: SATA 2

Yes!
The good thing about SATA, is that once you plug into a SATA header on a motherboard, BIOS will recognize that device.

try swapping the chips around. may not be seated correctly or maybe dud chips. Try putting in 2, do they register 8GB. try the next 2, then the next 2. maybe you find 2 not working.

Can you elaborate the functions of this product....

NOTE*
The following applies to motherboards such as an AsRock K7S41GX.
It does NOT apply to motherboards supporting the Intel Core i3, i5, i7, and i9 processors.

1) Motherboard diagram,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Motherboard_diagram.svg

A) CPU = Central Processing Unit. Another term is Microprocessor, or Processor for short.
The 'Brain' of the computer.

B) Front Side Bus. Also abbreviated as FSB.
The FSB is the 'Information Highway' between the Processor, and the Northbridge chip.

[Chip and Chipset are slang terms for I.C.
Integrated Circuit,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Integrated_circuit ]

C) The motherboard chipset is the Northbridge chip, and the Southbridge chip.

The Northbridge chip handles the faster capabilities of the computer.
It is named NORTHbridge, because on the orientation of the motherboard, it is to the North of the motherboard.

The Southbridge chip handles the slower capabilities of the computer.

D) The Northbridge handles the Processor, Ram Memory, and HIGH-speed graphics.
AGP and PCI Express are high speed graphic technologies.

A graphics card used in a PCI expansion slot, and Integrated Graphics are NOT high speed graphics.

E) The Southbridge handles Integrated Graphics, (OnBoard graphics. Same/same), and the PCI bus.
A graphics card inserted into a PCI expansion slot is one example of Southbridge support.

Any add-in card inserted into a PCI expansion slot, is in the PCI bus.
Therefore handled by the Southbridge chip.

The Southbridge chip also handles IDE (PATA), and SATA harddrives.
Handles USB ports, Ethernet port/s, audio, and the CMOS memory.

F) The Internal Bus is the 'Information Highway' between the Northbridge chip, and the Southbridge chip.

G) The LPC Bus is the 'Information Highway' between the Southbridge chip, and the Super I/O chipset.
The LPC Bus is also the 'Information Highway' between the Southbridge chip, and the BIOS chipset.

H) The Super I/O chipset handles,
Serial port
Parallel port
Floppy Disk Drive
Keyboard
Mouse

2) http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?Model=K7S41GX

The AsRock K7S41GX has;

A) Socket A processor socket. Also known as Socket 462

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socket_A

Can use AMD processors that fit in a Socket A processor socket, and have either a 200MegaHertz, 266MHz, or 333MHz FSB.

Here is the CPU Support List,

http://www.asrock.com/mb/cpu.asp?Model=K7S41GX

Supports DDR Sdram ram memory at either 266MHz, or 333MHz.
PC2100 and PC2700, respectively.

Maximum TOTAL Amount of Ram Memory is 2GB
Maximum Amount for EACH ram memory slot is 1GB.
There are two ram memory slots.

Has an AGP (Accelerated Graphics Port) graphics expansion slot, that supports AGP 4X , or AGP 8X graphics cards. (1.5 Volt)

Has two PCI expansion slots

Supports IDE (PATA) harddrive/s. (2 maximum)
Supports IDE optical drives. (CD or DVD, or burners for both)

The motherboard chipset is a SiS 741GX - Northbridge, and the SiS 963L - Southbridge

We own a dell dx270 p4 it wont boot up should we just buy a new one or is this one worth upgrading and what is the biggest processor we can put into it.

darrinjensen all I can offer is my opinion, as can everyone else. The decision rests with you.

A) The best Processor that a Dell Optiplex GX270 can use, is a single-core Intel Pentium 4.
The best Ram Memory is DDR Sdram at 400MegaHertz. (PC3200)

This is shown by the fact that the Northbridge chip is an Intel 865G.
Supporting Data:

1) http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/opgx270/en/ug/specs.htm

2) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_chipsets#Pentium_4_Chipsets

3) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Motherboard_diagram.svg

[ The CPU {Processor} communicates through the Front Side Bus {FSB} to the Northbridge chip.
Think of an FSB as an 'Information Highway'.
Information {Data} goes back and forth across the FSB.

{Chip and Chipset are slang terms for I.C. Integrated Circuit}

The Northbridge chip determines what Processors are supported, what Ram Memory is supported, and High-speed graphics.

{High-speed graphics being AGP or PCI Express.
Not a graphics card installed into a PCI slot, nor Integrated Graphics.

Integrated graphics is also referred to as OnBoard graphics. ON the motherBoard. The graphics chip {GPU) is soldered to the motherboard. Not to a removable graphics adapter card. (Graphics card/Video card/Graphics adapter card, all mean the same thing)

The Southbridge chip handles the slower processes of a computer. Therefore also handling anything to do with a PCI slot, or Integrated graphics ]

A motherboard is the 'Building Block' of a computer. From it, all hardware components are supported.
Processor, Ram Memory, Graphics card, (Or Integrated Graphics), and so on.
What Northbridge chip is used determines a lot about a motherboard, besides the internal connectors used.
When buying a computer this is what you need to look at, for one.

Things have changed with the introduction of the Intel Core i3, i5, i7, and i9.
There is no separate Northbridge chip. It may be integrated into the CPU, or not used at all.
There is no FSB. It has been replaced with the Quick-Path Interconnect.

Intel rates their Processors with a star system now. The budget, or entry level Celeron is a 1 star. Pentium's are 2 stars. Core i3 - 3 stars, Core i5 - 4 stars, Core i7- 5 stars.

Point?

With the introduction of computer utilizing the Intel Core i3, i5, i7, and i9 processors, the computers that can use Intel Core 2 (Duo and Quad) processors are becoming VERY economical.

You may be able to purchase a desktop computer that utilizes an Intel Core 2 processor for around
$400 to $500. One that utilizes a comparable AMD processor for the same, or less.
And has Windows 7. (I know, do not start a sentence with And)

One example, (Not advertising for website),

Another example,

The Power Supply is probably what is bad with your GX270. Also, has it been cleaned inside on a regular basis as needed? {To include the Power Supply. A can of compressed air for computers is used. Power unplugged to computer}
