I can not change any details of my messenger list
I found error code: 40402

If your trying to edit contacts in yahoo/messenger you will get error message 40402 - you have to edit them in yahoo mail address book first

[Solution # 1]
You will need to go to your Yahoo! Email Account and delete the contact's name there first.

1. Click Contacts from in the toolboxt to open.
2. Go to the contact you wish to remove and click the box next to it.
3. Go to the top of the list and click the Delete button.

Go to Messenger. When your list of Contacts opens, right click next to the name you wish to remove and select Delete from the drop down menu. The contact will be removed here also.
Error Code 40402 pops up when trying to remove a name while in your Yahoo Instant Messenger list first.

[Solution # 2]
Quit the program, then delete the contents of the “Cache”-folder located here:
c:/program files/Yahoo/Messenger/Cache


That usually solves a lot of problems, that occur all of a sudden. Try that and see if it works

[Solution # 3]
most probably a registry error - if you do not have a registry cleaner try downloading the free version of ccleaner from filehippo
once its downloaded select 'registry' from toolbar on left hand side and run 'scan for issues' followed by 'fix selected errors' if errors are detected
use microsoft 'one care' for further check

Want too delate a name from yahoo address book/error code 40402
This is a yahoo server error code
It can happen if you try and try and amend contacts from your friends list before your address book
Go to yahoo mail page > contacts > address book >check box next to contact to be deleted > delete

Open Messenger.
Right click on contacts avatar > delete

Seems Error Code 40402 pops up when trying to remove them while in your Yahoo Instant Messenger list first.

Glitches and Updates!!! Here's a work around though.
You will need to go to your Yahoo Email Account and delete the contact's name there first.
1. Click Contacts from your Email page to open your list of Contacts.
2. Go to the one you wish to remove and check the box next to it.
3. Go to the top of the list and click the Delete button.

Go to Yahoo Instant Messenger, right click the name and select Delete from the drop down menu.

Well, the Yahoo Messenger 9 doesn't let you change the contact details.

Use the following link, and if you edit your address book in your yahoo mail account, the yahoo messenger takes over the nickname from the address book in the e-Mail account...

Yahoo Messenger List/Address Book
I have since found out that you have to actually go into your contacts under yahoo mail and delete them from that list, then it deletes them from your messenger. Found this solution on another website. Hope this helps anyone else who is having that problem.
