I have a Mitsubishi 62 inch DLP TV that is about 3 years old and I am just notcing that my picture seems to be getting darker and less bright and vivid then when it was new. Is this common? Is there a solution for this? I have recently replaced the bulb and that didnt seem to help.
I've noticed no one has mentioned cleaning the optics and mirrors of the TV. If the TV optics become dirty this well effect the brightness. I would do a serch on the cleaning of DLP TVs. This will be the cheapest way to go.
It could be your Light Engine. However, I would first check a few things:
1. Make sure your Low Power/Lamp settings are adjusted so that they meet your brightness needs.
2. Make sure you used a Mitsubishi original lamp, as generics get chewed through fast and hard.
3. Try another lamp; sometimes you can get a bad one in the bunch.
All those things don't work, consider a Light Engine ($400 + for parts; $300+ for labor)

did you change the lamp with an original or bulb only - mitsubishi only sells the lamp and housing!!!
never use generic

Sounds like one of the light sources has failed or half of the projection source has failed(first is more likely)
If your TV is still on warranty you may want to call them to come pick it up. I doubt you'd want to move this yourself since it weighs over 100lbs

This would be the little sensor on the light wheel. Its cheap, you can get them online for around $2. You will need to take the light engine out and remove the color wheel cover and remove the color wheel and then remove the sensor. You will have to desolder the sensor and remove it to replace with the new one.
What is happening is the sensor is overheating and not tracking the color wheel properly there for the colors get messed up. Once you replace the sensor the tv should work like normal. The part is
(Sharp GP2S40 Photointerrupter). It is very difficult to find because they are not made anymore. Most major online part stores do not carry them but I found a lot of them at Wright Hobbies. Good luck.
