My Hitachi NV45AB is leaking air from the trigger air valve. The gun still works if I just keep the trigger depressed and just smack the tip into the shingle.

Remove the 3mm roll pin holding the trigger in place and set aside the trigger plunger (white plastic plunger should have an oring on groove). Remove the fitting that holds the trigger plunger and replace vinyl ball #875645 or check for debris under ball. Good luck with your repair.

SOURCE: my hitachi nail gun NR90gc2 will not fire

Check the date of the bottom of the gas. With the gas removed when you fire it you should hear a faint spark sound from the top. If gas is in date try putting it in your pocket for 10 minutes to warm it up. Open the front and make sure the piston is pushed all the way up into the machine.

SOURCE: i took apart and replaced

If orings fit too tight cylinder will not move against the headvalve seal (headvalve is the black rubber or vinyl seat in the head). To help the cylinder reset, bump the head against rubber matt. If the cylinder resets, good to go, if however the cylinder does not move into position, remove the head and check that cylinder moves up/down about 1/4 inch. If it does not move pull cylinder and use 400 grit sandpaper on cylinder where orings contact. Remove all scratches and reinstall. Good holidays

SOURCE: Air leaks thru exaust on

Examine exhaust tube under valve for cracks and make sure that the tube seals correctly against body of the gun with rubber gasket. If tube is ok and has rubber gasket in place, check for correct cylinder movement. Press down cylinder with thumbs, the cylinder should return. If it stays down, pull it back up. If it is very hard to pull up, cylinder orings too tight or body of gun is warped. If it comes up with light to firm pull, go ahead and reinstall the head and test. If air leaks, try bumping the head of the gun (with air connected) against firm rubber to reset the cylinder against headvalve. If it still leaks, suspect that the cylinder is not moving up against the headvalve due to tight fit. Remove the cylinder and sand surfaces where orings contact to remove fine scratches with 400 grit paper. Also stretch the spring below the cylinder a bit to exert more pressue. Lube the cylinder with silicone paste lube. If you suspect warped body, remove all the orings from middle section the gun and insert the cylinder into body looking for out of round (with no orings the cylinder should just slide in to body of gun easily). Good luck

SOURCE: I have a Hitachi coil

I dont recall that there are any orings in the head area. Large leak from head area is caused by cylinder not retracting and seating against headvave. Small leak is usually gaskets between headvalve or cracked tube above headvale or rubber tube seal not seating against body of the gun. Test cylinder movement. Remove the head and push down cylinder, the cylinder should retract. If the cylinder is already down, pull it up. If the cylinder is very hard to pull up, most likely orings too tight or body of gun is warped. If the cylinder moves up with just little force, reinstall head and retest. If small leak, remove head and remove headvalve and look very closely for cracks in the head and tubes.

I have a FR350A framing nailer. I rebuilt the entire gun including the trigger valve. But the new valve leaks air when I try to fire a nail. I bought another valve but the second valve leaks air also.

The trigger valve should release air when depressed. This release of air comes from behind the head valve. If the head valve does not pup-up when the trigger is depressed then air is leaking past the head valve orings. Try coating the head valve orings with plenty of white grease and retest. If the gun fires you know that orings are leaking. Test with no more than 100 psi. Good luck with your repair.

How to repair of air leaks out in the plug in of hand held air tools when i depressed the trigger

This problem occurs when the orings in the headvalve and/or trigger valve are worn or just needs lubrication. This also happens when the safety foot does not push the trigger valve all the way in. Easy test. Remove nails and air pressure. Remove the trigger exposing the firing pin on the trigger valve. Connect air and with a very quick motion, depress the firing pin all the way in. If the gun fires adjust the safety foot. If the gun does not fire, remove the head and pull out the head valve. Lube orings in head with plenty of white grease. Reinstall head and test. If the gun fires, time for oring kit or just keep applying grease. If the gun still does not fire, most likely problem is trigger valve orings. Good luck

I have a Bostich coil roofing nailer #RN46-1 leaking air at trigger area when depressed. Replaced trigger assy but same results. Anything else it could be?

Sounds like your gun needs servicing. normally strip, clean and usually fit new O rings to head valve assy, piston & usually sleeve.

I have a hitachi nr90ae that will not fire. Depress nose and trigger and gets nothing. What's next?

Remove nails and air supply. Firmly depress safety foot against work with trigger depressed and make sure that firing pin is pushed all the way in. If firing pin is being activated by safety foot most likely problem is stuck cylinder or head valve. If the gun has been dropped the cylinder my jam. Remove the head and make sure that the cylinder and or headvalve moves and that the driver is not stuck in place. Good luck

Why does my Hitachi nv45ab gun double fire nails?

This gun should be bump-fired only. Do not place the gun on the work and press trigger. Make sure that the safety spring is in place and has good tension. The spring helps to push the foot off the trigger so that it fires once. You could also adjust the screw that pushes on the firing valve. Turn in or out several turns till head of nail is correct when bump firing then lock the nut. The safety foot fits rather loose on the gun and should still work ok but can get so loose that it falls off the nose. Good luck

I have the 2 1/2 Hitachi for nailing siding. The nail gun had not been used for a couple of years, but now will only drive the nail half way in. Sounds like an air leak when driving the nail. I have...

Remove the nails and air supply. With side door open notice position of driver. Driver should be at top position with tip not visible. If driver is down and it moves within cylinder when you tilt nose up then down again, time to replace orings. If driver is down, it should extend past the nose about 1/4 inch (if driver is broken at the tip the end will look rough and nail will not drive in all the way). If driver extends past the nose more than 1/4 inch then lower bumper may be breaking up /cracked. Easy test for proper function. With nails removed and side door open, connect air to gun and dry fire gun against hard rubber or old coiled air-hose (with air connected and trigger depressed, no air should leak from trigger area, if air leaks when trigger is depressed, look for fault at trigger pin). Feeder should move back then forward in quick motion almost matching speed of driver and driver should not creep down between shots. No air should leak from nose of the gun (push nose against hard rubber and depress trigger and hold in this position, driver should stay down with very little or no air leaking out of nose, when you release trigger, driver will return). If air leaks out of nose while holding in this position, replace lower bumper. If a quantity of air leaks from valve in front of trigger, cylinder orings may need replacing or outer part of cylinder has fine scratches (remove scratches with 400 grit paper). Parts are available at www.toolpartsdirect.com. Good lucki

Hi, i got a hitachi nv45ab and My nailer leaks air out the back

Hitachi nv45 series is the most popular line of nailers amoung professional roofers. There are three areas that develop leakes. Leak out head vent indicates cylinder stuck in lower position or headvalve worn. With air connected, gently rap head of gun against rubber mat to move cylinder to position. (Use caution not to damage head). If this action works, gun needs cleaning internally or lack of oil. If air still leaks out vent remove head and examine valve in head and replace as needed. Check that cylinder moves freely up/down (travel aprox 1/4"). If cylinder is hard to move pull cylinder and clean replacing orings as needed. If leaking around trigger, remove rollpin and trigger and check nylon ball for pits and replace as needed. If leaking around base of gun check for loose bolts and/or worn gaskets. Remove nail canaster to check feed piston gasket and screws. Good luck with your repair and post again if you have other question.

Air leaks arond trigger when depressed, but no nail fires.

Where does the air leak out from? If it leaks from the trigger DeWalt makes a trigger valve assembly part # 641006-00 list 8.89 BUT if it leaks from other areas we have to look into it deeper. If it is just the trigger valve let me know and I will give you instructions how to remove and install the new one.
