My dell latitude d630 I have pressed and held down the "FN" key and powered the laptop on. Firstly, all three status lights on ones and then stay off. What does this error light sequence mean?

SOURCE: dell latitude 100L power light flashes green as if

It sounds like you have a bad AC adapter . When you plug it in to the outlet in the wall and into your computer , do you see a charge indicator light on the computer? I'm asking you this because even with a bad battery your computer should operate without any problems with the AC adapter plugged in.

Testimonial: "Excellent purchased the new adapter and and what do you know problem solved. Thanks a million."

SOURCE: Dell D620 power light comes on when pushed but goes out 5 sec lat

There are two common causes for this and both relate to the power supply.

First is that the connector on the main board is loose or has a bad connection

If you are proficient with a soldering iron this is an easy fix for approx $10

http://www.insidemylaptop.com/category/4-dell-laptops/

They have some very good step by step guides for replacing power sockets.

It could also be a dying power supply which is the second most common cause.

Replacements are easy to obtain and cost between $20 to $60.
If it is the PSU either get an original replacement (EBAY is best bet) or get one of the many multi laptop PSU's available but if you get the latter please make sure it carries enough or preferably MORE amperage than you need.

The old supply will have the details of both the voltage and current on it and you need to match the voltage exactly and keep the same or better current rating eg 1000 Mw or 1A or whatever it says.

Where is the LCD cutoff switch located ?

Both the D620 and the D630 use the same keyboard.

The picture below shows the keyboard.

Hold down the blue Fn key at lower left, and then press F8 while holding down Fn. Press F8 multiple times until the screen returns.

If that fails, the ribbon cable connected at the main board from the screen may be loose and removing it, then reconnecting it, is the most likely solution.

Dell latitude D630 wont recognize projector

Connecting an External Monitor or Data Projector
You can switch to an external monitor or data projector by two methods. 1. Connect the external monitor to the laptop's video port, power up the external monitor first and the laptop. The video information will automatically switch to the external monitor. 2. If you power up the laptop first then you can switch the video output to the external monitor by pressing the Fn key and one of the Function keys, depending upon your make and model laptop. You can also toggle between the external monitor or both LCD screen plus the external monitor or back to LCD screen only by pressing the Fn key plus one of the function key. Here is a list of key combinations for some of the laptops :- IBM ThinkPad = Fn + F7 HP and Compaq = Fn + F4 Toshiba = Fn + F5 Dell = Fn + F8

I have Dell latitude d630, It is switching on but no display, when I switch on my laptop, its num lock light is on. capslock light works when i use caps button. Power light is on but hard drive light...

Attach an external monitor. Does the external come on? May have to use the FN key + F8 to toggle it between the LCD and the attached monitor.

When you say that the laptop LCD glows a little bit, this makes me think the back light of the LCD has gone bad. If it displays fine on the external, then it is a pretty good chance the LCD back light has failed. If you can attach an external monitor and see something on it, run the built hardware test. This is done from a powered down state. Then press the FN key + Power, this places it into the diagnostic. Follow the on screen instructions. If it comes back with an error code, write this down and compare it to this list at Dell website. http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/dsn/document?c=us&l=en&s=gen&docid=14B3819735D6B40EE0401E0A55177ED2

Occasionally, reseating the LCD video cable to the mother board will have a positive effect. Here is a link to the online service manual that explains how to reset it. In the diagram it is labeled #5 It is located under the keyboard.

My dell d630 won't show anything on the screen, it only lights up but then the next moment it will be fine and everything works fine please let me know if anyone have any idea where the problem might be

Hi. You can Run the Dell Diagnostics to determine the source of issue by pressing the Fn key and Power button at the same time.

Wait until the Dell Diagnostics appear.

If the Dell diagnostics doesn't come up, your motherboard needs replacement.

I cant get my projector to see my dell d630 laptop ? which f buttons do i press ?

Hold down the FN button and as your doing that push the F8 key. That will force the laptop to use the output on your laptop so your video can be shown on a lcd monitor but it should also be able to be used on a projector. Make sure the settings on your projector are set properly as well.

Print Screen Function

On the top row, on the right hand side, second from the left, there should be a Print Screen key (Print Screen / SysRq). Just press that key once - it should give you a PrintScreen.
