this may sound silly but is it charged? try doing it plugged in also. but there is no hard reset option other then taking it to your service provider they can do it there.
if you get lucky enough to get into the phone here are the codes just in case factory defaults by entering *#7780#. If prompted for your lock code, that will be Nokia's default 12345 unless you've changed it.

Turn off all your password requests,etc in the security settings of your phone and try to search your phonebook again. That could be the reason of protection.
