Whirlpool 24" built-in GU1200XTLBO dishwasher electrical smell

After about five minutes of running the dishwasher there is a strong "electrical" smell, like plastic or electric wires ..not a burning smell, definitely electrical. Machine works but smell becomes more intense. I've stopped using. Can anybody tell me what this is?

I have a Whirlpool Model : GU1200XTL02. After running for a short time we would notice an electrical/burning smell which became more intense every time we would use the machine. I isolated the smell as coming from the top of the door, around the control panel.

After shutting off the electricity to the machine, I took off the control panel, exposed the circuit board and found 2 burn marks on it where wiring from the machine connects to the circuit board.

If we had not done anything I am sure it would have eventually caught fire. Fortunately, the smell had become quite disgusting before that happened.

I inherited my whirlpool - model # GU1200XTLQ3 when I bought my home in March.

What you're describing is EXACTLY what happened to me. Except there is some burning involved, and if the fuse hadn't tripped, i'm sure there would have been a fire. Just how can that happen??

This may be the smell of Varnish used in motor winding. When we turn on the machine it gets heated a little bit resulting in a burning electrical smell.

This may be due to the Varnish used in

My dishwasher has a foul/ garbage like smell during/after running. Dishes do come out clean but the smell is really bothersome and it sometimes doesn't fully drain.

goto your nearest home depot they sell a product called affresh you use it on dishwashers there is also another version for frontload washers use this on your washers hotest cycle this removes mostly all smells if the smells persist you might want to check around the chopper area to see if you have any food enlodged around the chopper

A burning smell and steamy smoke come out when we open the door.

Normally, the last part of any cycle involves using the heater element inside, and at the bottom of, the dishwasher to give dishes a final hot rinse. Possibly some small plastic-type material has become melted and stuck to the element - which will remain hot even after all water is discharged. Hence the smell.
