SOURCE: Bosch dishwasher

Although I previously posted with the same problem of a film on the dishes after cleaning, I did find a section in the owner's manual which solved my problem. Lift up the rinse aid cap on the inside door - the factory setting is on "4". The rinse aid works in conjunction with your local water, which has variations in it's hardness or softness. When your dishes are streaky, lower the rinse aid setting to 1 or 2. If your dishes are spotted, raise the rinse aid setting higher.

SOURCE: Dishes and glasses being etched; looking dirty; embarrassing

First of all, if you're talking about actual glass as opposed to crystal, glass can etch easily. Why? Because like crystal, there are variations in its quality. Cheap glass will etch faster with the use of an electric dishwasher compared to higher quality glass.

Did you know that the main constituent in most automatic electric dishwasher detergents is sodium hydroxide (lye) and chlorine bleach (another caustic acid)

A Bosch dishwasher has very long wash cycles, further exposing your dishes to the possibility of etching damage. You should stop using the sani-rinse cycle if there is such an option and switch to a gel format detergent as opposed to a powder. Use a rinse agent such as Jet-Dry. This should solve your etching problem.

SOURCE: white film on inside of dishwasher on racks and dishes, plasticq

There will adjustment in the respective compartments for reducing or increasing the detergents. Adjust this. Refer manual. Finally have a look at the inlet water quality for excessive calcium!

White film left on the dishes after going through the dishwasher. Why?

Too much rinse agent. If you are using powder or gel, set pointer knob on rinse agent dispenser to a lower setting. If you were using the tablets, they have rinse agent built into them, and the additional rinse agent from the dispenser equals a double dose, so the film shows up. Stop using tablets until liquid rinse agent dispenser is empty.

The dishes do not rinse properly--despite rinse

run some calcium lime and scale remover throught the unit on an empty wash cycle just to get rid of any build up that may be there.
turn the rinse aid down to about half way.
also check the phosphours content of you washing agent.
there is a lot of factor involved with leaving film on the dishes, it could also be residual soap content that is sticking to your dishes.
reduce the amount of soap a little.does not matter if it is liquid or powder.
once every three months you need to run cleaner through the machine.
last thing but very important make sure the incoming water temp i no lowe rthan 120 degrees.

if no rinse agent is present it doesnt matter how hot the water gets they will still not dry check unit make sure it is full. rinse agent is only to aid the drying process the machine will wash happily without it but not dry.

My dishes come out with cloudy film on them.

From Whirlpool:

*Film is due to either etching or silica film. Silica film is a milky, rainbow-colored deposit and etching is a cloudy film. Sometimes there is a water/chemical reaction with certain types of glassware.
o Silica film and etching are permanent and cannot be removed. Both can occur in any automatic dish washing machine and result from a water/chemical reaction with certain types of glassware. They are caused by some combination of:
+Soft or softened water.
+Alkaline washing solution.
+Insufficient rinsing.
+Dishwasher overloading.
+Heat of drying.
+Long/hot cycles.

To slow the down this process:

*Use a minimum amount of detergent but not less than 1 tablespoon per load.
*Use a liquid rinse aid.
*Under load the dishwasher to allow thorough rinsing.
*Do not use heated drying.
*Wash glasses by hand.

Do the following:

1. do you use a rinse agent
2. clean out the drain.
3. if you have a food disposal, run hot water through it and turn it on to clear it out before you turn on the dishwasher. The dishwasher drains into that sink. If you notice food or dirty water backing up into you sink when the dishwasher is draining, then the sink could have a minor clog and is backing up and being re-sprayed onto your dishes.
Source(s):
Use SANIVAC to clean lime deposits and extend the life of your dishwasher. If you have heavy water.

Run your dishwasher empty and pour in a cup of bleach and a cup of white vinegar to get the residue out.....run a regular cycle.......How hot is your hot water tank set on? The hotter the water the better a dishwasher washes and rinses, be careful it's not to hot as your shower and other sinks also will get this hot water......cut your dish soap down and make sure to use a Jet Rinse Aid. Again, be sure to use a liquid soap, and rinse agent, powders will cause a caustic reaction. Hope this helps. Let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.
