DVDs from DVR don't play on any other DVD player

I have a Cox Cable DVR and am able to successful record to the Magnavox VHS/DVD recorder. However, the DVDs only play on the Magnavox DVD recorder and no other DVD player. When I put the disc in my computer it says the disc is blank, and on another DVD player it says 'no disc.' Does anyone have any solutions to this? Thanks!

Yes when you have finished the recording and preferably when the disc is full the disc must be finalised to be compatible with other players but be aware if you finalise a disc you cannot record on it anymore

I have Magnavox DVD player/vcr DV225MG9, does it record from vhs onto dvds? And if not, what do I need to get so that I can copy all of these old vhs movies to dvds?

it won't record dvd's its only a dvd player. only the vcr records
if the vhs movies your trying to record are movies like star wars and stuff like that it's copy protected and no worth the trouble. if it's home movies or something you recorded from tv they might work. if you get a dvd recorder/vhs player.

Want to record VHS to DVD on my Toshiba DVR620KU but do not want to connect to my TV set. Is this possible? My TV is older and does not have the input/output jacks. I just want to put in a VHS tape and a...

If the entire VHS is full then you can easily transfer the VHS contents to the DVD. The video will play while it is recording onto the DVD, but you don't have to have it hooked up to any TV for it to record. Now if you don't know how long the VHS content is that you want to record to DVD, then you will have to hook up the player to a TV so that you can press stop when you reach the end of the content you want recorded. At least this is true in the way that I use to transfer VHS to DVD:

1) Turn on the unit
2) Insert VHS tape
3) Insert DVD-+R or DVD-+ RW
4) Using remote, press VCR
5)Using remote, press play then pause the tape where you want to start recording.
6)Using remote, press DVD
7) Using the remote, press DUBBING. The VHS should start to play and the DVD should start recording

When using this method, don't hit the RECORD button!

I hope this helps!

I have a Magnavox ZV427MG9. I follow all directions in manual for dubbing VHS home movies to DVD but when I try to play the DVD back there's nothing on them. What am I doing wrong?

Depending on the procedure you may be pressing the record button instead of the D.Dubbing or Dubbing button. When recording from VHS to DVD you must first, load the blank DVD and VHS home movies, then play the VHS movies, then PAUSE the VHS movie when you want to START recording... then the only the you have to do is pressing the D.Dubbing button or the Dubbing button. If your VHS tapes starts to play after the Dubbing button is pressed you have been successful in Dubbing.

DVD does not play on other players or computer

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Your description indicates that the last step in the DVD recording has not been performed on these discs that were recorded on the Magnavox. This would be "finalize" or instruct the Magnavox that no other files would be written/recorded on the current disc. Thereafter, the Magnavox would complete the DVD disc making it playable in any other player. Normally, finalization would take a bit of time to complete.

Pls post back how things turned up. Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

I have a Magnavox MWD2205. I was told I can record DVDs from VHS tapes. So far not been able to. Thanks.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but this unit cannot record DVDs - only play them back. It can record VHS tapes. Here's a link to download the owner's manual.
