Line 6 Spider 2x12 100w combo - Input jack issue

I have a Line 6 Spider 2x12 100w combo amp (with the red/orange face plate). Input jack is not working properly and I need to pull the guitar cord either to the left or the right and hold it in place to keep the sound from cutting in & out. I presume the jack needs to be replaced but I can't seem to find one anywhere. Anyone know where to find it and how much this part will cost? Thanks!!

You must be really happy then also they sell the on/off switches for them and guitar ends cables and all kinds of connectors to hook up your guitar to all kinds of stuff.

  • You may be wrong. The Spider IV 75 that I have has a module built around the 1/4 and it has very special wiring.

Line 6 Spider IV 30 I have the above amp and there seems to be a short when the guitar input jack makes contact with the chassis. There's a copper contact pad on the sub board that the jack is mounted...

Typical guitar input on a schematic for line 6 shows an inductor between the input jack sleeve connection and the "earth" or safety ground.
I do NOT understand how you could fry one of the voltage regulators via the guitar cable unless you have more than a guitar (other devices) connected to the jack.
ALWAYS power any interconnected audio equipment from the same receptacle or power source to avoid ground bounce/fault damage to equipment.

I purchased a Line 6 amp about 3 yrs. ago and has barely been used. I went to use the tuner and it would not work along with the B channel also doesn't work. Could someone give me an answers as to why...

I suspect that switch contacts are to blame... often the very weak contacts on jacks that are for inserting effects, for example, get oxides on the contacts that forward the signal from the preamp to the power amp block the signal. The quality of many of the jacks used on these amps is really poor.

The hexagon nut came loose for the Guitar -CD/MP3 input from my son's Spider 3 (75) amplifyer. Where can I find a hexagon nut?

Those can be a pain to find. Some are Metric which worsens the problem. There are several types as well. I would first try Radio Shack where they have the drawers of jacks, etc. Those ore probably English thread...

The BEST source would be to search the DIGIKEY.com website for a jack that has the identical nut... the jacks are NOT expensive... under $2. Finding just the nut alone unless a repair shop for amps happens to have one laying around will be near impossible. It is worth trying that source however because USUALLY the jack inside is broken.

When I play my Line 6 Spider III Amp (Stack), the volume and gain output is very weak even though the settings are maxed, and the tone is very strained and sharp. It basically lost all of it's kick.

Poor contacts at jacks can cause this... it results in the contacts acting like a small capacitor passing only the high frequencies at very low level.

Power amp inout jacks are notorious with switch contacts that pass the preamp signal to the power amp if the power amp input isn't used.

There are many other possibilities and only hands on troubleshooting will determine the cause.

My line 6 spider iii30 30 watt amp works with

There is likely a switch contact on the headphone jack that routes the amp output to the speaker. These jacks on most music stuff are JUNK and the contact may not be closing.

If the spring contact is bent so it won't close you can bend it to contact BUT the springyness usually is gone and the contact will be marginal.

My Line 6 Spider Amp sound goes out when I plug in my FBV express pedal. Any advice?

Read this cut and paste and verify compatibility as a first step:

<<<
*FBV is not compatible with Spider II 15 or Spider III 15.

**FBV is only compatible with POD 2.0 units with pedal jacks labelled "FBV Pedal." It is not compatible with older units which have pedal jacks labelled simply "Pedal."

(NOTE: FBV is NOT compatible with Ax212, Flextone I, II or HD, POD® Pro, Bass POD®, Bass POD® Pro and Spider.)
>>>

Note there are apparently several versions. Check compatibility at this site:

The plastic bolt that hold the input in place has fallen off

You'll have to remove the amp chassis from the cabinet to get at it. I only came online again today the 27th so I'm sorry I was probably too late to help.Make sure you don't touch anything around the power supply as the capacitors retain a large charge. To partially discharge them, unplug your amp from the wall while it is on and set at low volume levels. Hope I helped.
