Similar issue with mine. The snap ring above the accessory attachment pin had come out of it's groove. Need to slide the snap ring back up in the groove. It may need to have food particles removed from the groove first before it can seat inside.

See picture of the planetary (below) and it's a small snap ring up near the painted round part. If there is no ring your may have been lost or damaged. It's need to be replaced with a new part in that case.

professional 600 575 watts 6 qt. beater stem is lo - b68be83b-c0cb-45d6-8d74-337f1cf098bd.jpgThe part you see is called the planetary, it has two shafts, the long one is called the center shaft and if it is falling off you need a new planetary, the second shaft (shorter) is called the agitator shaft (the beater attaches to it, if this is the culprit then1 you are not attaching the beater correctly2 the locking pin that the beater attaches to to hold it in place is missing3 you have way too much "gunk" build up on the agitator shaft and the beater is not attaching correctly4 if the beater falls into the bowl with the agitator shaft still attached you have three additional problems a) the snap ring a top the agitator shaft has broken off or come off which in turn means that
b) the gear at the top of the shaft has come off and may very well been knocked around and possibly damaged beyond future use which means that you will need a new one and also
c) the shaft pin that holds the agitator gear in place has come out or been broken also
the fix is easy and your parts cost $ will be from $30.00 to $80.00 dollars depending on which parts you need. Now before you get palpitations, cost are listed as a possible need
1 new planetary $30.00, you may not need
2 new agitator shaft and gear assembly $27.00, pretty sure that you need but maybe not
3 new gasket $6.00
4 new gear grease $6.00 KA says 2 oz. (don't buy a 2lb (26.00 bucks) can when you only need 2 oz).

Without more clarity or a picture I can't help further. but before you start tearing you machine apart go to the KA website and get a parts list for your mixer
http://shared.whirlpoolcorp.com/product_literature/search.jsp?siteCd=KAD

let us know how you fare on this or better yet get us a little more info and we can help more.

thank you. the planetary assembly is loose. the beater does not fall off.

  • Slo Mover Apr 17, 2013

go to the website i listed above and get your parts manual. it will show you how to open up your machine and give you a correct part number for the new planatary arrives, you also have to remove the agitator shaft from the old planetary and then install it on the new planetary. now re-assemble, you should also change your gear grease under the transmission cover as long as you are in there, and a new head gasket both about 17.00 and the planetary total around 45 bucks and an hours time...OH!!! and a full roll of paper towels.

  • Slo Mover Apr 17, 2013

so you understand the problem, your model has a newer style planetary that does not have a shft pin in it, also the center shaft is heat pressed in with grooved slots in the planetary and grooved slots on the shaft, pressed into place and then assembled in the machine. the problem is not unusual but only happens a mixers that get used a lot.

I own the 6 QT Stand mixer. Is there a Is there a 4 or 5 qt bowl that works with this mixer?

Kitchenaid does not make a 4 or 5 quart bowl that would fit your 6 quart mixer, but other 3rd party companies do!
You may be in luck.
I haven't seen this bowl in person, but it apparently will fit your 6qt mixer. Here is a link to a page selling the mentioned attachment. It comes in a set, with appropriate wire-whip attachments:

Just replaced planetary and gears, flat beater still heating bowl. is planetary to be loose or fit tight against mixer head?

The beater cannot "heat" the bowl, so I am going to assume that is a typing error, and you meant hitting.
If the beater hits the bowl it is usually caused by the adjusting screw at rear of the column being improperly set. To correct this you need to turn the adjusting screw slightly to right, or left to adjust clearance. Clearance should be 1/16", about the thickness of a dime.
If this does not fix the problem, and the beater still rubs the bottom of the bowl, it can be corrected by tapping the yoke arm with a mallet, there should be 1/16" clearance between bottom of bowl and end of the beater.
You can determine the 1/16" by dropping a dime in the bowl, the flat beater should just "touch" the coin as the beater rotates.

Motor clicks every turn

The clicking is probably a small nick in one of the gears, even the smallest chip can cause alot of noise or make the mixer click. Is the beater shaft still turning when you have a load in the mixer (bowl is full)
Or is it just clicking?

If the beater stops turning it is going to be caused by stripped gears, however if it is just clicking this would indicate just a nick in the gear. Either way I would recommend opening the mixer and replacing the damaged gear/gears.

Your mixer is considered a 5 Quart Professional, which means it has the same parts as a KitchenAid 6 quart mixer. The first thing you will want to do is take the mixer apart and disassemble the gearing. You will want to clean off the gears with paper towels and wd-40. Carefully inspect each gear once clean and replace damaged gears.

In the professional mixers when a gear strips you need to replace the grease and housing gasket, this is because the gears are all metal and there may be metal shavings in the grease which could cause the gears to strip again.

The most common gear to go bad in the Professional series mixers is the Worm Follower Gear (9706529). Here is a link to that gear on our website: http://www.mendingshed.com/wormfollower.html

Also, here is a link to the service manual for the mixer, this will aid you in taking the mixer apart and putting it back together correctly. http://lib.store.yahoo.net/lib/mendingshed/kitchenaid6qtservicemanual.pdf

We are one of KitchenAid's largest service centers within the US, and all parts we sell are genuine KitchenAid products. All parts are available at our website, www.mendingshed.com

When raised to do whipping my professional 550 hd mixer attachment does not scrap the bowl to mix properly

You can adjust the mixer bowl up and down slightly. If you lower your bowl and look at the back you will see a little screw, it looks like a flat head screw and it is on the "neck" of the mixer.
You can raise and lower the bowl by adjusting this cam screw. You can tell that your bowl is adjust correctly by attaching the flat beater and put a dime in the bottom of the bowl, the beater should just barely touch the dime and move it around the bottom of the bowl.

The beater will not scrape the sides of the bowl, if you are wanting the sides of the bowl scraped I would recommend the Flex Edge Beater made by KitchenAid which is basically a flat beater with a rubberized edge which will scrape the side of the bowl as it rotates.

Here is a link to the flex edge beater on our website: http://www.mendingshed.com/kfe6l.html

I have a Kitchenaid 550 watt 6 qt. stand mixer model #KB26GIXER. I tried to use it this morning and couldn't get the beater blade to lock in place. Isn't there supposed to be a spring and washer...

There is only one pin on the beater shaft to hold the beater in place.
There is no spring or washer on the shaft.

To Attach Flat Beater,Wire Whip, or Spiral Dough Hook, simply
1. Slip flat beater on beater shaft.

2. Turn beater to right, hooking beater over the pin on shaft.

When I raise the bowl the contact with all the beaters remains. No amount of adjustment to the suggested screw on the base affects the beater clearance...the contact remains and so I can't use it. Its...

the planetary (the part that spins) probably has dropped down slightly due the part separating from the vertical shaft. this will cause your beater to drop as well; and, contact the bowl. you can try to tap the center of the planetary with a rubber mallet and see if you can close the separation.

I have a KitchenAid mixer KM25GOX NSF, Model serial number WT2333793. I purchased on eBay & it is in great condition, but the flat beater hits the bottom of the bowl & the adjustment screw doesnt...

1. Unplug stand mixer.
2. Place bowl lift handle in down position.
3. Attach flat beater.
4. Adjust so flat beater just clears bottom surface of bowl
when in lifted position by turning screw
(A) Counterclockwise to lower the bowl.
5. Just a slight turn 90 degrees in either direction.
Place bowl lift handle in up position to check clearance.
6. Repeat Steps 4 and 5 if necessary.
I hope I helped you.

Kitchenaid mixer makes a lot of noise. The beater

Hi - I've been searching for general info on KitchenAid stand mixers and ran across this so I'm throwing my $.02 in... Since KA stand mixer bases are essentially made of cast metal parts, there is a very slim chance that there is a lateral misalignment (side-side) unless it got dropped...eek! Sounds like a head height adjustment issue. Check out this from KitchenAid Conversations:

Good luck.

Lowering the beaters on the professional kitchenaid

Hi. With the bowl-lift in the down position, look for a screw on the front of the column. Turn this screw counter-clockwise. This screw will only turn 90 degrees so don't force it any farther. Use the flat beatet to check the clearance. The beater should just clear the bottom of the bowl.

If this solution has assisted you, please rate it. Good luck! ricardok45
