I recently upgraded the memory in my Satillite A135-2386.It runs Vista. Went from 512mb to 2gig but when I check memory in Systems Mant. is says there's only 894mb.Is it really only running on 894? I have been geting a message saying my memory is low. Any help?
First try to reseat the memory, if it is still showing the same amount, then you may have a bad stick of memory, remove both and insert 1 stick into Dimm 1 slot and see if it still registers 894, then put the other in the same slot and see what it registers. Then try in the Dimm2 slot and see if you get a different reading Depending on the manufacturer, it may only show that amount since Windows shows memory different that the memory manufacturer.
Hope this helps.

In BIOS it also shows 894mb of memory.
Having the same problem upgrading a friends A135. However, when I place both new 1GB modules, the system simply won't POST. Nothing happens. If I put in one of the 1GB modules, along with the 512K factory module, it will POST, but Windows only shows 1GB of RAM total. In the BIOS, it shows close to 1.5GB total *which it should). Makes me think that the memory modules I'm using are somehow not 100% compatible with the system. I'm going to return these and try another brand...these were PNY, btw. If I have any luck, I'll update here....
I have the same problem. Toshiba A135-S3286. Added 1GB Kingston KTT533D2/1G PC4200 which is matched per Toshiba Direct. Only 894mb recognized in bios and Vista. Both slots tested and it does not make a difference : ( 512mb stick works, but is not adding to the 1GB. Wondering if V1.10 bios problem?
When you look in the BIOS how much memory do you see?
