My car has been running hot for the past few days, and my heat completely stopped working yesterday, i checked the antifreeze and it was bone dry, there is a huge puddle in my driveway. Where could it be leaking from?

Due to overheating of engine, damage can happen and engine can even cease. I think it is time to take help of a mechanic. Might require replacement of some crucial gaskets/washers etc. Checking of electrical lines would also be needed.

you have a air lock...Start the car with the radiator cap off. One of the easiest ways to bleed your car's radiator is to simply remove the radiator cap and then start your engine. Leave the vehicle running until it reaches its normal operating temperature. It may take between 15 or 20 minutes before your car generates enough heat to push out the air that has been trapped in your car's cooling system. You may find that you need to add additional coolant, as air pockets can artificially inflate coolant levels.

you must have a black hole some where in your engine,lol. but seriously the fluid must have been refilling the radiator from there it must be leaking out some where, check your oil level for anti freeze contamination. check the tattle tale hole on the water pump for any leaks there.park the car and check fluid levels cold start car and let warm up untill thermostate opens then check for leaks

I dont think the problem was with your water pump, so much as with possibly a leak in your radiator, hoses, possibly the starter/alternator, even loose battery cables, or need a new battery, can cause this and might account for the inability to start now, provided you restored coolant levels, etc. Good thinking, turning heat on to draw it from the engine. Ive done it myself a time or two, and saved the cost of an engine or two. (overheating will cost you dearly in engine repairs) Might think about having a diagnostic run to see what all is wrong with your car,( then have them list repair/replacement in order of importance) and, checking the transmission fluid to be sure its at the correct level.. (The orange fluid made me think of this, also) Just some things to try.

prob heater core, roughly 750 to replace, whole dash needs ripped out..unless it is just a hose off at the firewall leading to the heater core or leaking radiator hose..fill the system with clean water and look for leaks, you wont have heat without enough collant in the engine to circulate under 13 psi closed system, check the resevoir for cracks and leaks mine fell apart over years good luck

may be your water pump or a hose, or your radiators broke i recomend not to run it is not a good idea or youll blown the head gasket or worst, have it check and fixed

overheating is most likely a bad thermostat, but the coolant loss is a second big concern. Does the exhaust look like steam? You could have a cracked block and the coolant is leaking into the engine. Also check the oil for contamination.

Bit odd that mechanics cant find it but here are a few suggestions:
1. A damaged seal on the water pump. As the water in the cooling system is both hot and under pressure when the engine is running, and the pump shaft rotates at high speed, water leaking past a water pump seal will be thrown off the water pump shaft and evaporate very quickly. When the engine is stopped, and the water cools the pressure reduces and so doesnt force the water past the seal, so apears to be okay.
2. A core plug in the engine block has rusted through enough for a very small leak to occour, again when the engine is hot. Core plugs are very often obscured from view by ancilaries such as ignition parts, alternator, exhaust, etc, so are very difficult to see when the engine is running.
3. Rubber hoses can become porous as they get old (10 years is plenty old enough) and as for the two possibilities above, only "leak" when the engine is hot so even a very close visual inspection may not show the leak.
4. If you can smell antifreeze inside the car, particularly when the engine is hot, then you may have a leak on the heater matrix which is like a mini radiator inside your dashboard. If you find the car steams up a lot even on a warm and dry day, this is a good indicator of a leaking heater matrix.

I have personaly fixed "untraceable" water leaks atribuitable all of the above over my years of working on cars. Unlike a proffesional mechanic, time wasnt money for me so I spent many hours finding some of them. Good luck !

your climate control unit is bad you can get a used one from the salvage yard it should work fine

Did you run the engine with rad cap off & heater (not defrost) on while topping up the coolant. If not, do it & let it run that way until your rad fan comes on & off about 3 times, then top rad up to a inch or 2 from top, and put cap back on, & check level in return bottle.
