Maytag HAV4657EWW tub bangs during spin

The tub does not want stay straight. It seems as though it is out of balance. At times during spin cycle the entire tub bangs the side of the washer. To resolve it I would have to shift the clothes around some and try to center it, hoping it stays center, and start the spin cycle. It has never had this problem in the 6 six years that I had the machine. Any help in troubleshooting the issue would greatful.

This washing machine has self-leveling rear legs. Tilt the machine up on the front legs and you'll hear the back legs drop down to re-level itself. Center the basket and restart.

Maytag atlantis washer doesnt spin on spin cycle, also found plastic shavings in clothes, appear to be coming from the top outer edge of the tub, a white plastic trim piece. wash cycle seems to work fine...

There can be several causes, the drum off balance would cause the shavings during spin cycle , balance could be one of the the balancing mechanism failed and not running could be the balance sensor shutting down the spin cycle. You should start by checking the balance shocks .

Unstable tub

There are springs inside the unit that stablize the tub during spin. If the springs are not attached correctly the tub will be off balance. Sometimes the Balance Ring loses it's fluid due to a crack or leak and the washer will spin off balance. THis requires a service tech to dissemble the machine.
