Lamp keeps cycling on and off.

The unit starts normally but the lamp shuts off after about 90 seconds. Lamp light flashes green as it tries to restart (I can hear the 'igniter' sound but the bulb doesn't light.) After 2 or so retries, the lamp comes back on. After about 90 seconds or so it shuts down again and the whole cycle repeats .. All fans are working and there is no temperature light.

Blinking green light

Try cleaning both fans and inspect the lamp. Usually quite obvious if the lamp is bad (ie. blown tube/shattered glass) Make sure you secure the lamp door properly after.

Panasonic PTL500 LCD HIDEF projector - Unit occasionally powered up briefly, lamp lit, then shut down, standby LED flashed orange/red. Sometimes lamp lit and sometimes not. Technician diagnosed bad ballast...

The bulb is a discharge type - it needs a very high tension to work. The role of the ballast board is to convert the low voltage DC current coming from the power source in a high tension DC current for the bulb. Unfortunately you were truly unlucky : when the ballast board died it sent a high tension surge thru the power source and from there at the other components on the mainboard - the processor couldn't handle it and got fried. So now when you try to start the projector this is what happens: the power source starts normally - the status light goes to green as it should; it functions normally so it powers the ballast board and the rest of the mainboard - the ballast works so the bulb lights up; the mainboard on the other hand remains dead because the processor is dead so no sustain signal is sent to the power source; without the sustain signal the power source goes, as it should , in an very normal stand-by - the status light goes to red.
The entire mainboard will have to be replaced - you can't replace just the processor, it's glued in there. This is going to be expensive so ask a quote before doing it.

If you take the back off you might find a couple of bulged electrolytic caps on the power supply board that need change, or just buy a new power supply at www.partstore.com

New lamp turns on flashes 7 times

Just a thought...you *might* have a bad ballast in addition to that defective power supply. That flashing could be the ballast trying to ignite the lamp. A lamp is just like an enclosed welder's arc. The ballast generates a high-voltage spark to initially start the lamp, then low voltage with high current keeps it burning. If you look into the lens and see "lightning" flashes but no lamp ignition, that's what's happening. The ballast could've been damaged by the defective supply. Also, try a known-good lamp...just to rule out a defective new one--in the shop, we kept all old working lamps as testers.

Intermittent lamp turn off

I was told by the repair service to unplug the power cord for about 5min. This resets the internal computer. I think this helps but does not cure the cause. Good luck.

SONY GRAND WEGA

I have a KDF60XS955. When I power it on, the fan comes on, the standby light flashes green several times, the lamp comes on and the standby light goes to solid green. This lasts for less than 5 seconds then the lamp goes out, followed by ~30 green standby flashes, the lamp coming on with the solid green standby light for about 5 seconds then shuts off the lamp again. I can hear/feel the fan running the enitre time. This cycle continues endlessly. Please help!
