The camcorder is in safeguard mode and even when I remove the battery the camcorder remains in safeguard mode. How can I get the camcorder out of safeguard mode so I can use it again?

"JVC notes that you are also given a malfunction code when the unit is placed into safeguard. If it displays code 01, 02, or 06 you should remove
the battery and powersupply and wait for a while. Code 03 and 04 indicate that you should eject and reinsert the tape.
If neither of these solutions work, your only alternative is to bring it to a shop or send it to JVC for diagnosis or repair. Unfortunately, there is no other way to clear the condition."
According to this, E04 denotes a problem with the recording media or the mechanical bits that deal with the tape. Hopefully trying another tape helps.

Here's what i found. I was able to clear the message by opening and closing and ejecting the cassette. I also had to play with the battery at the same time. Keeping the cassette door open and then pulling out the battery. After is did this a couple of times i got the message to clear. I too haven't used my camcorder for some time and now that the error message has cleared the camcorder tells me that i need to clean the heads. Hope this helps. Below is the message i found that pointed me toward ejecting the cassette. An error indication (E03 or E04) appears. - (E03 or E04 UNIT IN SAFEGUARD MODE REMOVE AND REATTACH BATTERY) This massage a malfunction of some kind has occurred. In this case the camcorder's functions become unusable. - Eject the cassette once and re-insert it, then check if the indication clears. When it does, you can resume using the camcorder. If the indication remains, consult your nearest JVC dealer or service center

1. The drum cannot be started or drum rotation is stopped
because tape transport load is too high.
1) Tape tension is extremely high.
2) The tape is damaged or soiled with grease, etc.
2. The DRUM FG signal is not received by the syscon
CPU.
1) Disconnection in the middle of the signal line.
2) Failure of the DRUM FG pulse generator (hall element).
3. No drum control voltage is supplied to the MDA.
4. No power is supplied to the DRUM MDA.

Some video cameras (Sony for example) have a tiny reset button that can be pushed with a tooth pick, and this does a factory reset and usually solves most lock up problems. The button is in an extremely small hole, usually in the side of the camera somewhere, and is marked reset. See if your JVC has one, and if so then try it.

The mechanism is out of sync, put a tape in and hold it, it wont go in but will try to open don't let it, remove the battery and reattach, let the tape eject, rinse and repeat 3 or 4 times and it will finally accept the tape.

Exactly the same error message and I can't get the tape out or do anything, I did what the book said about taking out the battery but that does'nt work either.
i was trying to playback using my tv screen, but the message keep saying in safeguard mode all the time, i just want to see my wedding video!
I had the same error E04 camera in safeguard mode remove and re-install battery. That did nothing and couldn't get the tape out. I finally got it out by removing battery Holding tape eject and plugging in the power cord with out the battery. The tape ejected and now I've put the battery back on and it seem to be charging fine. I guess the tape gets messed up if the battery get to low and the camera basically locks it's up.
