Pioneer EX is an easy to use detector. The most difficult aspects of metal detecting have been automated. However, if you are new to the hobby I would say the Bounty Hunter Pioneer series of metal detectors is not. It's a manual metal detector for beginners.

I would check eBay for a manual. One of my first bounty hunter metal detectors was so hard to use that I carried the manual with me everywhere I went. The one I have now is awesome though.
