Good advice. Don't mess with it. Lots of folks take printers apart thinking they can fix them and in the end they have a pile of printer parts that end up in the trash. Printers are cheap and you are better off getting a new inexpensive printer.

SOURCE: No connection HP photosmart 8050 printer
Hi from France,
I am now repairing my printer (Photosmart 8050) with the same problem. It is due to the welds of the USB pins of the socket on the printed board. It is thus necessary to open the printer by means of a screwdriver Torx. You need a little soldering iron in order to weld the four pins of the USB socket, and then I recommand to strengthen the connections and the socket by means of hot glue.
best regards,
Philippe

Hi!
First of all, you'll need to COMPLETELY uninstall the printer:
1. Unplug it from the computer.
2. Uninstall the ALL software/drivers through Add/Remove Programs (or Programs and Features - if you're using Windows Vista/7).
4. Restart the computer.
4. Go to Printers and Faxes (through the Control Panel) and make sure the printer is NOT listed. If it does - delete it.
5. This is an important step, follow carefully:
6. Restart again.
7. Reinstall the printer software/driver (DON'T PLUG THE USB CORD YET) using the installation CD (or better, download the latest software from here!).
8. Plug the USB cord when asked - or when setup is done.
Please do tell if your problem's still unsolved!
Good luck,
Pelu.
