How do I find if my iPod touch battery is dead?

When the iPod touch battery dies, you cannot do anything with the device. You will receive a warning on the screen of the iPod touch, when 5 percent of the battery turns on the device. Connect the device to a power source as soon as possible to load and prevent the battery goes dead. When the battery dies, the unit will shut down and will be connected to a power and charged before you can use

1. Press the iPod touch "Sleep / Wake" button, located along the upper side of the machine. If your iPod does not care, this is an indicator that the battery is dead.

2. Connect a charging cable to charge your iPod and connect the USB cable to a power of high power. High-power USB ports directly on your computer tower or, if the hardware usually found in the tower on the monitor, the monitor itself. The iPod touch screen shows a big red battery icon on the far left of the icon, indicating that the battery was empty.

3. Press the "Sleep / Wake" to see if the iPod is connected. If so, check the battery life, looking at the battery icon in the upper right corner of the screen. When the icon appears white, the battery is full when the icon is half black, the battery is almost dead, and if the battery is almost dead, you will receive a warning. If the iPod does not start, the battery is completely dead. In this case, your iPod into electronics store and have the battery replaced.

The iPod Touch, a portable media player from Apple, has an internal battery that will eventually run out of power while you reload. According to Apple, the iPod touch offers up to 40 hours of audio playback or up to seven hours of video playback when fully charged. The machine takes about two hours to recharge to 80 percent capacity, and about four hours to fully charge. Although the iPod Touch does not have an innate ability to tell you how long it will take to charge the battery today, you can create a free application that will give you an approximate time to load.

Preparation

1. Press the "Home" button below the touch screen of your iPod Touch.

2. Touch the "App Store" icon on the home screen.

3. Tap "Search" and enter a search term such as "Battery" and then "Search". Haywire no its not jailbroken

It sounds to me like you itouch battery is getting ready to die. so it's not running your touch with the power needed. I would first replace your battery.

If replacing the battery doesn't help
you can restore your touch to factory settings in itunes.
go to itunes click restore and your touch will have new software.
remember restoring your touch, you will lose all apps, music, videos and pictures.
back up your device now while it is still in running condition.

Good Luck

Battery run time

I used this ipod repair guide that shows how to replace the battery on an iPod touch using photos and instructions. The batteries wear out over time, expect about 1.5 years of usage if you recharge your iPod almost every day. Sometimes the batteries have manufacturing defects, in other cases the logic board has an error and drains the battery (ipod touch would get warm, if the latter was the case).
