After i turn on computer it starts up and then the screen just goes black. And the computer is still running
What do you mean by "computer starts"????? plz write full detail. first remove your monitor cable from your cpu cabinet. if you are able to see "no signal" message on screen then your monitor is working. if you aren't seeing anything on your screen then there is some problem with your monitor. there also may be problem with your VGA connection (VGA or D-Sub wire). remove and reconnect this wire from both end. first reconnect it from your monitor and then from your video card. if it dosen't fix then you have to check that all led's are glowing on your cpu cabinet or not. if only power led is glowing and other led's always remains off, then there may be problem with your video card or ram or hdd. first open your pc case, then if you have video card, then remove it and put it again. reconnect your hdd sata wire. remove your ram and place it again. if now also not showing anything on your screen, then there is problem with your motherboard bios.

welcome to fixya
i would try this first goto device manger in your computer and find the video card in the list and see if it needs updated if this does not work it might be that the video card might be bad but it sounds like a video card update driver is needed
i hope this helps you out have a good day;:)

If you're working on the computer when that happens, it's not probably a power setting. Try to update your BIOS to the most current version at the toshiba support website (support.toshiba.com) & see what happens. Fixes the issue most of the time
I hope this helps.

Must be common problem. Linux is the operating system
yes you just lost linux, it needs re-doing but with an external CD ROM drive unless it has a partition
for recovery in which either F10 key will do it or another key check the manual for RECOVERY of operating system its not a big problme but it takes few hours to solve

You could have a defective screen - a defective inverter or a CCFL lamp.
To determine if you have a LCD screen or video card problem, read this and follow the instructions.
Defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom:
All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp
Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power it up, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight.
Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.
