This problem can be caused by the following, A bad battery, (which you say you are all new). A full base memory and a Faulty main base unit
This main base unit can only expand to four handsets and no more. If the base unit has been reset then the assigned numbers for each handset would begin with " handset 1" if they show any other number when reset then it would not have been reset..To re-set main base you will have to
De-Register All Handsets
Unplug the power supply from the base unit then Remove all handsets from the charge cradles and base then Press and hold the PAGE button on the base.
Plug in the power supply again while pressing the PAGE button, Continue pressing PAGE until the IN USE and CHARGING indicators are lit. (this could take up to 10 seconds)
Release the PAGE button All Handsets will display "enter base id".
If this does not solve your problem then you will have to replace the main base
To register a handset to the base, follow these steps:
Step 1: If ENTER BASE ID is displayed on the handset, proceed to the next step; if not, press MENU on the handset, then press ▼ until REGISTER is highlighted; now press OK.
Step 2: Locate the 15-digit Base ID number by pressing, at the base: MENU, then press ▼ until DISPLAY BASE-ID is highlighted, then press OK.
Step 3: Carefully enter this number using the handset dialpad. If you make a mistake, press ‹ to backspace. When finished, press OK.
In a few moments, the handset will be assigned a number (1-6). This
will be the lowest available number in the sequence not previously
assigned to another system handset.
Step 4: Repeat the procedure for any other unregistered system handsets.
Reply back if you have success. The Base ID is not from the bottom of the base unit, but is something you get by following Step 2 above.
Step 1: At the base, press MENU, scroll to BASE SETTINGS, then press OK.
Step 2: Using the base dialpad, enter * * 3 3 5 7 8 2
Step 3: Re-register each system handset:
At the base, press MENU, scroll to DISPLAY BASE-ID, then press OK. The 15-digit base ID number will be displayed.
Step 4: Using the handset dialpad, enter the base ID number. Repeat the registration procedure for each system handset. Each handset is assigned a number in the order of registration
It may not be registed with the main unit. You may need to register the handset. With my uniden all i have to do is put it in the main base until it says what handset it is (it should be a number).
If you have any questions please dont hesitate to ask
I contacted GE today and they told me how to get the caller ID to work on the additional handsets. You must follow these steps in the exact order given.
#1 - unplug the base phone
#2 - unplug the telephone line from the base phone
#3 - remove the battery packs from the phones
#4 - wait 10 minutes.
reverse the order when assembling. Put battery packs in phones, put the telephone line back in the base phone and lastly plug all phones back in. It takes about another 10 minutes after that before all phones start recognizing caller ID but it now works fine.
