Try to assign an IP address to the second computer like 192.168.0.101 Subnet 255.255.255.0 and Default gateway 192.168.0.1

Note: This one is an example of IP address, the IP address that you need to assign is in range to the router that you have or with in range to the modem.

You are probably putting too much current through the hub. 1 USB port is good for 500mA, and since this splits 1 into 4, you're working with 125mA per device if you have 4 things connected. Find a powered hub instead.

You mentioned in your question that you had a router. If it is actually a modem, then yes, you need a router.
The reason that the Ethernet hub is not working is that your modem will only give out 1 IP address to one device on the hub. With a router, the router uses the 1 IP address and shares access to the internet via that 1 IP address.
Yes, you'll need a router instead of a hub.

If your trying to use this to share an internet connection.. sorry to say but it's not going to happen. The hub that you purchased will not handle the DHCP settings that need to be processed to share an internet connection.

Best advice... go back to Best Buy and smack the agent that sold you this and get a router instead. :D That's what you're needing to share your connection.

How do you hook up a Dynex Ethernet Hub

If your hub has 4 or 5 connectors, connect one port to your router. This device will NOT work when connected to your cable modem, as the hub does not manage IP addresses like a router does. Hope this helps ... the remaining ports will feed internet, but not provide Internet addresses to a computer.

4 port USB hub not working...

Try connecting the hub to another USB port. You may even connect this same device to another computer and check if that works. This will help isolate the issue better.
