SOURCE: frigidaire fac127p1a 12000 btu compressor

The compressor is probably going out on either a pressure related or heat related overload. Both are a result of low refrigerant. There may be a low pressure safety swich that protects the compressor. Otherwise it may be an internal thermal overload that is tripping. It resets itself and comes back on. The thermal overload heats up and shuts off the compressor to protect it from too much heat which is gernerated by not enough refrigerant in the system to keep the compressor cool. It may be cheaper to replace the unit than have someone try and fix it. It is pretty time consuming and you cannot try it yourself unless you have an EPA Certificate to buy the refrigerant. Check with your local appliance repair man to see if he will tackle it.

SOURCE: Where does the water drain

The unit should be angled back to the outside. The water will run thru a tube from the indoor coil to the outdoor coil, then most fan blades have a slinger on them that picks up the water and throws it on the out door coil, which makes it more efficient but after time the water and dust will pile up on the coil and require cleaning at some point. If you clean the coil you can extend the life of the unit quite a bit. So you may not get any water to drip outside.

How to know the tons of old ac unit from the model no?

36 is equal to 36000 btu. To find the ton divide by 12000 btu. 12000 BTU is a ton of refrigeration. This is a 3 ton unit.

Tempstar 5000

The 48 before the VKD in the model number stands for 48000, BTU. For refrigeration, 1 Ton = 12000 BTU. Therefore 48000 BTU / 12000 (1 Ton) = 4 Tons

How many tons is my unit?

divide your btu rating by 12000. (1 ton = 12000 btu)
For example - a 24,000 BTU Air Conditioner is a 2 ton unit. 24000 divided by 12000 = 2
A 18000 btu air condtioner is a 1 1/2 ton unit 18000 divided by 12000 = 1 1/2
you can find out your btu rating by looking on the tag on your unit.

I have installed an LMU246 with two heads. One 9000 BTU and the other is a 12000 BTU. The 12000 seems to work fine but the 9000 head dosent cool and when I tried it on heating, a c7 code comes...

with the Lmu24 you have a variable speed compressor i wouldn't suggest attacking this repair on you own, get a Nate certified Sr. service tech out there and have them do cause your taking about high end cutting edge compressor technology, how ever if you need them i can email you a pdf copy of both owners and service manual.

Compresser is shorted out across the fields. I want to comfirm the compresser size before I replace it.

Hi,
You need a niminal 3 ton compressor...the "36" in the model number gives you the 3 ton rating...36000 BTU @ 12000 BTU/ton = 3 ton...
So you need a 3 ton 240 volt single phase compressor...
